Columbia Pacific Advisors has started a 16-story apartment tower at 1001 Broadway on First Hall and given it a name: The Danforth.

The Danforth will have the first Whole Foods Market on First Hill, with 40,000 square feet on two levels. Columbia Pacific says there will be 265 luxury apartments above the market. Underground parking will be provided for 355 cars.

Todd Seneker of Columbia Pacific Advisors said in a news release, “The luxury apartments and retail will be centrally located near some of the city's most historic neighborhoods but also on the First Hill streetcar line and just blocks away from the new Capitol Hill light rail station.”

Tiscareno Associates is the architect, DCI is structural engineer, GGLO is the interior designer and Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company, is the general contractor. A subsidiary of Columbia Pacific is managing construction.

Opening is set for mid-2018.

This is one of two towers that Seattle-based Columbia Pacific plans on First Hill. The other is a 243-unit, 24-story senior housing complex at 620 Terry Ave., on land owned by the Archdiocese of Seattle.

Columbia Pacific was founded in 2006 by Alex Washburn, Stan Baty and Dan Baty.

Whole Foods has nine stores open in Washington, and is also developing stores in Kirkland and West Seattle.
