Hines spends $46M on a makeover for public spaces in 800 Fifth Avenue

The 800 Fifth Avenue building was built in 1981, and it just got a $46 million face-lift.

Hines Interests Limited Partnership owns the 42-story tower and recently completed major work on the public spaces.

LMN Architects designed the project, which involved demolition and relocation of 24-foot curtain walls to allow for expansion.

The first-floor lobby now extends closer to Fifth Avenue and has better seating areas.

The new west wall and entry area use a point-supported glass curtain wall system to make the lobby more visible from the street.

Part of the second-floor exterior plaza was enclosed to create a mezzanine, with more seating and open conference areas.

A grand stair connects the first floor lobby to the mezzanine.

On the fourth and fifth floors, new glazing has transformed a near-windowless space into Class A offices, with high ceilings and natural light.

New signage was added to improve visibility and wayfinding.

Finishes include marble and stone, stainless steel curtain-wall supports, and accent pieces throughout.

Crews did the work while the building was occupied, which required coordination between contractors and management.
