Seattle developer Pryde + Johnson has opened Keelson Ballard, a seven-story apartment building at 1537 N.W. 56th St.

The 106-unit complex has a mix of one- and two-bedroom and loft apartments ranging from about 540 square feet to more than 1,140 square feet. Rooms are designed with soundproofing and large windows with views of the Olympic mountains.

Tiscareno Associates is the architect of record, Weber Thompson is the design architect and Rush Commercial is the general contractor.

Residents can use a rooftop plaza, dog walk, bike storage, community room, storage lockers, barbecue grills and an exercise area. Underground parking holds 88 vehicles.

Green features include solar panels, LED lighting, low-VOC paints, water-efficient plumbing fixtures and electric vehicle charging stations.

The name Keelson comes from the Swedish word for a boat keel, and is a nod to the neighborhood's Nordic history.

Team members include CT Engineering, structural engineer; KPFF Consulting Engineers, civil engineer; Emerald Aire, mechanical engineer; two 9 Design, interiors; and Thomas Rengstorf & Associates, landscape architect.

Pryde + Johnson's has finished other projects in Ballard: Soren and Hjarta. The firm is also planning a 75-unit building at 6416 15th Ave. N.W.
