City offers help on ‘building tune-ups'

SEATTLE — The city is offering incentives to the owners of 100 non-residential buildings to meet the Seattle Building Tune-Ups requirement early.

The goal is to improve the energy efficiency of small and medium-sized buildings. The city will offer up to $0.12 per square foot for buildings with less than 100,000 square feet that join the Tune-Up Accelerator Program. This is estimated to cover about half of the typical upgrade cost.

Incentives for upgrades that go beyond the tune-up requirements are also available. The University of Washington Integrated Design Lab is offering technical support for major renovations, equipment replacement or tenant improvements.

Tune-ups include an inspection to identify operational or maintenance issues, and completion of corrective actions. Buildings with less than 50,000 square feet may participate in the Accelerator program, but the tune-up mandate does not apply to them.

Owners should enroll by Dec. 1, and complete the tune-up by mid-2019 to get the incentive.

Go to the Tune-Up Accelerator website, https://tinyurl.com/yd4k437k, for details.
