Bellevue looks at affordable housing

BELLEVUE — Bellevue City Council on Monday discussed ways to add affordable housing on some properties owned by the public and nonprofits.

Last year, the city adopted an affordable housing strategy that included “Action C-1,” which is estimated to create between 200 and 1,000 new affordable units over 10 years, the city said in a press release.

The approach would allow C-1 housing in multifamily and commercial zones, and adjacent to those properties. The council will get a follow-up briefing later this year.

A city report notes that in early 2017, the median single-family home sale price in Bellevue was over $1 million. The average apartment rents in West Bellevue and downtown are over $2,000 a month.
