Eagle Rock Ventures said the Mexican Consulate opened this week at the former Harvard Exit theater, at 807 E. Roy St. on Capitol Hill. The lease was reported in February. Eagle Rock bought the three-story 1925 building for $2.35 million in 2015, and renovated it with architect SHW and Dovetail General Contractors. The consulate, which was in Belltown, occupies 11,700 square feet, which will accommodate about 180 staff members. The former Woman's Century Club operated as a cinema from 1968 through 2014. Eagle Rock's Scott Shapiro said the rehab was tantamount to “constructing a new building inside an old shell.” SHW's Sarah Hatfield called the theatre “a jewel that needed to be preserved.” The downstairs hall is now open-plan offices, and the stage is intact for performances and events.
