Late last year, the O'Connor Consulting Group noticed a surprising jump in apartment vacancy from June to December in King and Snohomish counties that couldn't be entirely explained by new supply or a decline in demand due to the poor economy.
During that period, vacancy rose 2 percentage points, to 5 percent, said Brian O'Connor, principal the with Seattle-based firm that does commercial property appraisals and market studies, with an emphasis on residential.
