TeamDesign, a graphic design firm with offices in Seattle and New York, has hired Jeff Barker in the area of business development. A 10-year veteran of marketing and corporate communications, Barker comes from the Paragon Group, a company he had been with since its inception. Team Design specializes in the design of corporate identities, collateral graphic systems, annual reports, multimedia, Website development, and sales and marketing materials. The company's client list includes major players such as Microsoft, Immunex, Fluke Corp., AT&T Wireless Communications, U.S. Bank and U.S. West.
Don Delzell, vice president in charge of loan administration for Seattle Mortgage Co., has passed the Certified Mortgage Bankers accreditation exam. The CMB designation is awarded to mortgage banking professionals who have both experience and demonstrated knowledge in residential and commercial real estate finance. Delzell has been with Seattle Mortgage since 1984. Previously, he worked in real estate lending and banking. Delzell currently sits on several state and national committees and industry panels, and has assisted in writing an MBA textbook titled "Handbook of Loan Administration."

Stan Hadler has been promoted to senior project manager at W.G. Clark Construction Company. The Seattle contractor also announced Will Magnuson has been promoted to project manager. Hadler joined Clark in 1989 and holds a degree in construction engineering technology from Montana State University. Magnuson joined Clark in 1991 and holds a degree in construction management from California State University at Long Beach.
The Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) is holding its 1995 Pacific Rim Environmental Conference at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, Oct. 2-4. The purpose of the conference is to stimulate technology cooperation and promote business opportunities based on the management of environmental challenges throughout the Pacific Rim. Speakers represent such organizations as the Secretariat for the Environment, Natural Resources and Fisheries in Mexico City; the Environmental Protection Administration in Taiwan; and the United State-Asia Environmental Partnership (US-AEP), a regional United States Agency for International Development initiative that incorporates environmental fellowships and exchanges, technology partnering, environmental and infrastructure development and biodiversity. US-AEP recently awarded A&WMA a grant to support establishing local environmental professional grant associations in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Republic of Korea and Sri Lanka. Two full-day and half-day continuing education courses will be held Sept. 1 in conjunction with the conference. Course topics are: Introduction to Economic Incentive Strategy for Air Quality Management, Key Issues in Designing an Effective Audit Program, Introduction to the Internet and Introduction to the World Wide Web. Vivian Cary Jenkins, chief operating officer, and Joseph A. Marotta, administrative director of Radiology, Security and Commuter Services at Seattle's Harborview Medical Center, have been advanced to fellow status in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), an international professional society representing over 30,000 healthcare executives. Fellow status is the highest level of professional achievement in the college. To obtain the designation, members must demonstrate their education, experience and leadership in the healthcare field over a period of several years, and complete a significant project on a subject related to healthcare management. There are currently 2,900 health care executives in the nation who have earned Fellow status, of which 294 are women.

Bedford Falls Funding, a new Seattle-based mortgage banking company designed to serve the needs of Latinos in Washington, will hold a reception Sept. 21 at the Columbia Tower Club in Seattle from 5 to 7 pm. Speakers include Kim Herman of the Washington State Housing Finance Commission and Judy Dailey of the Federal Home Loan Bank. Bedford Falls will target low and moderate income families and encourage would-be homeowners to contact a tollfree number for information. Spanish speaking loan consultants will help callers with mortgage questions or applications. Applied Technical Services Corp. (ATS), a Bothell-headquartered provider of turnkey manufacturing services for Northwest electronics companies, has added three employees to its staff. Daniel L. Ritz, who has more than 30 years of experience in electronics materials management, procurement, engineering and manufacturing, takes on the responsibilities of director of materials. He previously worked for Texas Instruments in Austin, Texas. Sandy Leonard has been hired as manager of human resources. Leonard comes to ATS with 20 years of experience providing comprehensive information and developing programs covering all aspects of human resources in the workplace. Former positions include manager of human resources for Motorola Inc. Wireless Data Group in Bothell, and CISD International Inc. in Costa Mesa, Calif. And, David North has joined ATS as senior production supervisor, continuing an 11-year career in contract manufacturing that includes tenures at Prism Electronics in Redmond and Assemblers Automated in Rush City, Minn.
Sagent Corp., a six-month-old company with headquarters in Bellevue, has been awarded a contract by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Entitled "Cost-based Generation of Scalable, Reliable, Real-Time Software Components," the contract extends for two years, committing Advanced Technology Program funds of $1.9 million with a cost share of $168,000. The technology area of the contract is component-based software. It addresses the problems associated with the design and operation of distributed networks of computers and information systems faced by business and industry in the creation of "virtual enterprises." Sagent technology, "multiple autonomous decision makers," is designed to synchronize the many events in a network to ensure that they happen in the proper order and that data remain consistent throughout the network.
The International Standards Initiative will host a presentation on ISO 14000, this Friday Sept. 15, at 7:30 a.m., at US West's New Vector University, 15800 S.E. Eastgate Way, Bellevue. IS 14000, the new international environmental management standard that applies total quality management principles in the environmental arena, is important to all companies that do international business and may be used by state and federal regulatory agencies as well. Draft standards have begun to be released and are expected to become effective in 1996. The presentation will describe the main components of the ISO 14000 series, how they apply to specific businesses, and discuss outstanding issues and controversies. It will be led by Mike Ruby, president of Envirometrics, an environmental engineering firm that specializes in air pollution control, and John Kinsella, vice president of SCS Engineers, an environmental consulting firm with 25 years experience in dealing with solid and hazardous waste issues in North America and overseas. Ruby is a member of the U.S. technical advisory committee on ISO 14000. SCS is currently working with several Northwest firms on developing their ISO 14000 programs. ISI is also sponsoring a two-day conference on ISO 14000: Environmental Management for the 21st Century, on Nov. 6-7, at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.
