SEATTLE -- May 17 is the day for the seventh annual Puget Sound Bike to Work Day. Presented by the Cascade Bicycle Club, Bike to Work Day is designed to encourage the use of bicycles as transportation and to introduce people to the benefits of commuting by bicycle. According to Seattle Engineering Department estimates, between 4,000 and 8,000 Seattle residents commute to work by bicycle. On Bike to Work Day, daylong rallies will take place in Seattle's Westlake Park and on the lawn of Puget Power. Puget Power is located at the corner of 106th Street Northeast and Northeast Fourth Avenue in downtown Bellevue. The rallies will feature live entertainment, including performances by Hokum Jeeps, a musician who plays the piano on his bicycle. The rallies also will feature food, drinks, display booths, Bike to Work Day T-shirts and water bottles and information on bicycle vendors and organizations. WASHINGTON -- The Association of Energy Engineers is sponsoring an Indoor Air Quality Compliance Workshop June 6-7 at the Hyatt Arlington in Washington, D.C. The program will provide guidance for individuals who are designing and implementing air quality programs. The emphasis will be on complying with current indoor air quality (IAQ) regulations while being ready to adapt to future regulatory changes. Registration fees are $745 for Association of Energy Engineers members and $845 for non-members. The Port of Seattle's new Bell Harbor International Conference Center and Marina will host three concurrent marine industry shows early in September for the tug, salvage, superyacht and Northwest workboat industries. Officials of the shows have now announced a plan to coordinate the shows and provide for common exhibition space. The Superyacht Northwest Show will be held September 11-14 at Bell Harbor on the downtown Seattle waterfront. The show has been expanded with the addition of Workboat Northwest, displaying a range of passenger and other workboats designed and built in the Pacific Northwest. In addition, the 14th International Tug and Salvage Convention and Exhibition will be held in the Bell Harbor Conference Center September 9-13.

Jurij Pikas and Jeff Chale have joined Toll Free Cellular as vice president of information systems and vice president of carrier relations respectively. As vice president of information systems, Pikas will develop and implement a comprehensive information technology strategy and direct information systems activities, including architectural design, application development and operations management. Chale's responsibilities as vice president of carrier relations will include developing and managing relationships with cellular carriers and other wireless service providers.

Three employees of Showplace Kitchens and Baths of Redmond have received accreditation through the National Kitchen and Bath Association. Fay Liner, has added certification as a Certified Bath Designer; Marie Thompson, has been certified as a Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer and Diana Wogulis Keys, has received certification as a Certified Kitchen Designer.
Thompson Vaivoda of Portland has named two new principals in the firm. David P. Gellos has been with the firm since it was founded in 1984, and is team leader for cinema projects. Kurt Schultz, an eight-year veteran, currently leads the design team for the new East Portland Community Center. Thompson Vaivoda has also added four new members to the staff. Thomas G. Shaw is an architect with over 12 years of experience in a variety of projects. Tobin Weaver is licensed in the state of Massachusetts and has 10 years of project management experience. Tim Simpson and Montgomery Hill have been hired as intern architects.
Art Anderson Associates has added three new staff members to the civil and structural division of the firm. Kourosh Sameni, a senior civil engineer, will be working on Dawn Place Business Center in Poulsbo and on parking at the Madigan Army Medical Center. Prior to joining Art Anderson Associates, Sameni practiced civil engineering at Hanford and in San Diego and Phoenix as well as the Puget Sound area. Eleanor Ranstrom has joined the firm as a civil technician. She will participate in design of a new passenger-only ferry terminal for Vallejo, Calif. Prior to joining the firm, she provided drafting support for numerous local school district projects, Costco stores and a fire fighters' training facility at the Naval Submarine Base, Bangor. Trudelyn Thuring has joined the civil and structural engineering division of Art Anderson as a civil technician. She is supporting the Sinclair Landing project, has recently completed working drawings for the Bremerton National Airport self-fuel facility for the Port of Bremerton and is assisting with design for the Family Service Center addition for Kitsap Community Action. Now in her fifth year with the firm, Thuring previously provided drafting support for the mechanical/electrical and marine groups at Art Anderson. Maria Campbell has joined the administrative staff. Prior to joining the firm she worked in contracts at Envisions and Martin Marietta. She is a graduate of Brigham Young University.

GeoEngineers has relocated its Tacoma office to 1101 Fawcett Avenue, Suite 200. The new office has more than 5,600 square feet of production and administration space. GeoEngineers will continue to operate its own on-site soils laboratory. The new telephone number is 383-4940; the fax number is 383-4923.
