Cinnabon World Famous Cinnamon Rolls has promoted Stuart Young to executive vice president for development, and has named Kern Gillette as chief financial officer, a new position at Cinnabon. Previously, Young served at vice-president for real estate and the company's design and construction department. He will now take on broader corporate development and strategic responsibilities and continue to lead the company's real estate, design and construction. Gillette will be responsible for Cinnabon's financial planning, treasury, accounting, auditing, controlling, and purchasing. Most recently, he was the chief financial officer for Reese Brothers. Based in Seattle, Cinnabon is the leading cinnamon roll bakery retailer in North America with more than 325 company-owned and franchises bakeries in 35 states, Canada and Mexico.
The Clean Washington Center and its Recycling Technology Assistance Partnership (ReTAP) will have a workshop on how to fuse and cast recycled glass for use in ceramics and pottery. The workshop is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 5 at Seattle Pottery Supply, 35 S. Hanford. The admission fee is $25. Everyone who attends will be given 200 pounds of crushed glass and other raw materials. The workshop is designed for ceramic artists, business owners and recycling and economic development professionals. Managed Care Washington (MCW) has named Pamela Hara as vice president of operations. Hara will be responsible for defining organizational quality care and service standards and implementation throughout MCW's network of more than 1,500 clinicians. Also joining MCW are Joi Murotani as director of provider relations and Ari Ziv as special projects coordinator. Murotani will be responsible for designing and implementing quality management tools, customer satisfaction enhancement strategies and provider development strategies. Ziv will work in a variety of areas relating to research, contract implementation and administration. Managed Care Washington is a statewide managed behavioral health company in Washington.
Darrell Couts has joined Magna Design Inc. as vice president of sales and marketing. He will oversee all of the company's sales activity and will work closely with the company's distribution network, architecture and design firms and corporate accounts. Located in Lynnwood, Magna Design Inc. designs and manufactures office furniture systems.

Steve Epple has returned to Callison Architecture as the firm's newest principal. From 1979 to 1993, Epple was a senior project manager at Callison where he worked on Nordstrom stores and corporate offices. Three years ago, he left Callison to become Nordstrom's regional manager for store planning in Southern California. During that time, he earned a masters degree in business administration with a focus on international business from UCLA. Now Epple will be leading work on retail and international projects at Callison in addition to responsibilities for internal office organization.
Gary Phillips recently returned to Berger/ABAM as project manager. He has 17 years of civil and structural engineering experience, including four years with Berger/ABAM. He specializes in the design of roadways, highways, bridges, and retaining walls, and has worked on a number of transportation projects for the Washington State Department of Transportation and several local municipalities and counties. Phillips is returning to Berger/ABAM from Parametrix. Attila Laszlo has joined Berger/ABAM as senior engineer. Laszlo has 11 years of civil engineering design experience with highway and water, sewer, and sanitary sewer systems projects. He has specialized in transportation projects, including geometric, drainage, signing, channelization, and signal analysis and design. Laszlo from ICF Kaiser/Tudor Engineering, where he served as project engineer on numerous municipal, county, and state transportation projects. Vern Nielsen joined the firm as senior engineer with over seven years of experience in civil and structural engineering for government and public works facilities. His projects include roadways, parking lots, transit facilities, sanitary and raw water systems, sanitary and vacuum process sewer systems, and storm water drainage systems. Nielsen comes from ICF Kaiser Engineers in the Tri-Cities area. John Mulkey joined Berger/ABAM as engineer. He is a recent graduate of the University of Washington, where he completed a bachelor's in civil engineering. During his studies, Mulkey served a tour of duty with the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis in Tacoma. His current work at Berger/ABAM focuses on traffic analyses and site development engineering.
Mary J. Gearhart, regional manager with Geraghty & Miller, Inc., has been promoted to vice president. A civil engineer, Gearhart has spent 17 years in environmental engineering and joined the firm in 1987. She has been leading the firm's port services since 1996, providing both environmental and infrastructure services. Thomas J. Calabrese, operations manager for the Portland office of Geraghty & Miller, has been promoted to associate. A hydrogeologist, Calabrese has served as project manager and principal investigator on environmental remediation for utilities and port authorities.
Jeffrey Osborn has joined Parametrix, Inc. as senior fisheries biologist with specialized expertise in fish passage studies and hydroelectric project operation issues. He will be responsible for managing fisheries projects in the Kirkland office. Osborn's most recent experience has been managing the development of the mid-Columbia Habitat Conservation Plan for Chelan, Douglas and Grant counties in Washington state. The objectives of this project are to benefit salmon and steelhead runs and to enable regional hydroelectric facilities to continue operation. Prior to joining Parametrix, Osborn worked at the Bonneville Power Administration as the operations biologist, responsible for the operation of the Federal Columbia River Power System to improve upstream and downstream salmon and steelhead passage.
Lavon McChord has joined the Seattle office of RSP/EQE as an emergency management specialist. Her areas of expertise include disaster planning, response and recovery in response to hazardous materials incidents, tornadoes, highrise fires, windstorms and civil disturbances. She has spent nine years with a number of emergency management offices in local and state government. Jan Decker has relocated to RSP/EQE's Seattle office as emergency preparedness services manager. She has worked in public safety and emergency services, government disaster preparedness, public utilities and professional consulting. At the Seattle office, she is responsible for all emergency preparedness services.
Robert Wildrick has joined W&H Pacific's Bellevue office as survey technician. He has worked as a survey intern for the Bureau of Land Management, and his specialty is boundary surveying and GPS operations. Thomas Barger has joined the firm as survey project coordinator with more than 11 years of field experience. Chad Smith has also joined the office as project technician. With a degree in landscape architecture from Washington State University, he had more than 15 years of experience in the design industry. Georgina Willock has joined the firm as receptionist.
Gregory Harry has joined SynThesis of Bellevue as a project architect. His background includes several airport projects as well as restaurant and education facilities.
