Korsmo Construction

John Korsmo Construction has moved to its new offices at 11150 Gravelly Lake Drive S.W. after 50 years at its original Lakewood location. The 3,700-square-foot office, previously occupied by a real estate company, was redesigned and remodeled. Korsmo specializes in commercial and industrial construction projects ranging from $10,000 to $10 million.

Stuff2Gold

Stuff2Gold, a Seattle-based start-up company, is a new web auction listing designed to help people with little or no computer experience or resources sell their antiques and collectibles. Stuff2Gold will reach online shopping clientele via web auction sites such as eBay and Amazon.com.

J. Miller & Associates

Gail Curtis has joined J. Miller & Associates in Seattle as executive assistant. Curtis has more than 15 years of experience with executive support and building administrative structure for high-tech, accounting and consulting firms. Curtis will serve the firm's two principals with marketing research, administration and client support. J. Miller & Associates provides architectural lighting design and consulting services for clients regionally and worldwide.

McConnell/Burke

McConnell/Burke, a consulting firm based in Kirkland that provides urban planning and hearing examiner services, has recently hired Kevin McDonald as senior staff planner. McDonald has prior planning experience in Ravalli County, Mont., and Bellevue, as well as a forest management background with the Boise Cascade Corp. He earned a bachelor's of science degree in forest management and a master's degree in urban planning from the University of Washington. He is a member of the American Planning Association.

Landau Associates

Landau Associates, an environmental and geotechnical engineering consulting firm based in Edmonds, has added four new staff members and promoted three others. Dawn Keegan, an environmental scientist, ecologist, and wildlife biologist with 14 years of experience, has joined the company's Portland office. Keegan will manage projects involving wildlife and fisheries evaluations, biological assessments and Endangered Species Act response, wetlands strategy and delineation, ecological risk assessment and habitat conservation/restoration. Charlie Hughes, an environmental scientist who specializes in sediment and natural resource assessments, has joined the Seattle office. He will conduct marine field sampling and analysis, stream surveys, hydrologic surveys, bioassay testing and dredged material program testing and analysis. Other additions to the Seattle office include Al Myers, the firm's new information technology systems manager, and CAD drafter John Duncan. Recent promotions in the Seattle office include Rebekah Brooks to senior hydrogeologist and Deb Ladd to senior engineer. Eric Weber was promoted to senior hydrogeologist in the Tacoma office. Landau Associates also has offices in Tacoma, Spokane and Lake Oswego, Ore. The firm specializes in environmental site characterization, remedial design engineering, environmental compliance and permitting, natural resources assessment and geotechnical engineering.

Jones & Jones

James Brighton has been named a principal of the Seattle-based architectural and landscape architectural firm. Brighton holds a master's degree in landscape architecture from Cornell University. He joined Jones & Jones in 1990 and recently completed five years of work on Disney's Animal Kingdom. He currently manages projects in San Francisco, San Diego and Melbourne, Australia.

Berger/ABAM

Thawewat Chatchalermwit recently joined Berger/ABAM Engineers in Federal Way as a project engineer. Chatchalermwit has more than 18 years of experience as a structural engineer and received his master's degree from the University of Texas. He specializes in transportation-related structural engineering, including transit and roadway systems, and highway and bridge facilities. Prior to joining the firm, he was employed with Berger/ABAM's affiliate firm, Louis Berger International, for the past nine years as a senior structural engineer. He has also worked with Parsons Brinkerhoff in its New York and Dallas offices. He is working on the Washington State Ferries passenger-only ferry terminal project and the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport ground access improvements project for the Port of Seattle. Gordon Steklenburg joined Berger/ABAM as a construction specialist. His previous experience includes 30 years with the Washington State Department of Transportation. Steklenburg has spent the past 21 years in construction management positions with the Washington State Ferries (WSF). Currently for Berger/ABAM, he is overseeing several construction activities at WSF. Erik Neal has recently joined the firm as an engineer. He graduated from Gonzaga University in civil engineering and was president of the American Society of Civil Engineers' student chapter. Neal is working on the passenger-only ferry terminal project for the Washington State Ferries. Berger/ABAM Engineers is a consulting firm offering services in the areas of project management, civil and structural engineering, environmental planning and documentation and construction management and support. The firm specializes in building, public works, special structure, transportation and waterfront projects. Based in Federal Way, the firm also has an office in Portland.

INCA

Earl Franzen has recently joined the transportation department of INCA Engineers in Bellevue. Franzen has more than 34 years of experience working for Washington's Department of Transportation, where he was supervisor for the plan review section. As a senior design engineer, his responsibilities with INCA include the design of roadways, freeways and transit centers.

Hart Crowser

Hart Crowser, an environmental consulting and remediation design firm, has hired Shannon Dunn, sediment quality specialist, and Bruce Schneider, environmental historian, who will be working in the Seattle office. Keith Kroeger, sediment quality specialist, Jacob Daniels, environmental engineer, and Steven Alvarez, environmental scientist, have joined its offices in Portland, Chicago and Jersey City respectively. Dunn, a Hart Crowser staff member working in the Jersey City office since 1998, specializes in mathematical modeling in support of field observations. Schneider, who joined Hart Crowser's Seattle office in mid-1998, has knowledge of a variety of geographic information systems (GIS), as well as experience using global positioning systems to capture and process data. His current work includes developing GIS databases and applications to support a stormwater management project at the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. Kroeger, who joined Hart Crowser's Portland office in February 1999, is responsible for biological testing and sediment sampling programs and for assisting in the performance of ecological and human health risk assessments. At Hart Crowser, Kroeger is working on a feasibility study at the Port of Portland's Terminal 4 and for the Portland Development Commission's East Bank River sediment assessment project. Daniels, who joined Hart Crowser's Chicago office in March 1999, is responsible for researching site history and past uses of the Grand Calumet River/Indiana Harbor Ship Canal. Alvarez, who joined Hart Crowser's Jersey City office in June 1999, will use his knowledge of climatology, meteorology, oceanography, estuaries, coastal processes and environmental chemistry to conduct bathymetric and side-scan sonar surveys, execute field explorations and interpret chemistry data. Founded in 1974, Hart Crowser is an environmental consulting and remediation engineering and design firm headquartered in Seattle, with offices in Portland, Anchorage, Long Beach, Calif., Denver, Chicago, Boston and Jersey City.

RCA/Huitt-Zollars

Richard Cobb has joined RCA/Huitt-Zollars as manager of its Tacoma office and as director of municipal engineering. He has 35 years of engineering experience, including 18 in public works with five different Washington cities. At RCA/Huitt-Zollars, Cobb will be focusing on municipal engineering, improvement district formations and infrastructure improvements for large-scale development projects. He was most recently a project manager for Vicwood Development Corp. and has had previous experience as an engineering consultant. Joseph O'Leary has been promoted to associate. O'Leary rejoined RCA/Huitt-Zollars last year after three years as director of engineering and airport operations at the Port of Bremerton. He is currently managing a master plan for the Northwest Regional Office of the Federal Aviation Administration. Blair Prigge has been promoted to survey manager. Prigge joined the firm nine years ago as party chief, became licensed in 1992, and most recently was a project manager. He earned a bachelor's degree in forest engineering from Oregon State University. RCA/Huitt-Zollars (formerly Richard Carothers Associates) is a planning, civil/infrastructure engineering and landscape architecture firm with local offices in Seattle and Tacoma. Formed 39 years ago by Richard Carothers, the firm merged in 1998 with Huitt-Zollars, a Dallas-based multidiscipline engineering firm specializing in transportation and municipal engineering.

Zipper Zeman Associates

Zipper Zeman Associates, based in Lynnwood, has hired Timothy Roberts and Curt Thompson. Roberts has more than 12 years experience as a geotechnical engineer, engineering geologist and environmental assessor. Roberts' project experience includes foundation investigations, slope stability assessments, engineered fill control, embankment design, pile installation and environmental site assessments. He specializes in seismic and liquefaction assessments. Thompson has more than 19 years of experience as an engineering geologist on numerous projects. His experience includes application of geologic data to engineering problems for landslide investigations, landfill construction and closures, public infrastructure projects, including water and sewage treatment facilities and transportation corridors, drainage basin studies, commercial and industrial facilities and various environmental assessments. Established in 1998, Zipper Zeman Associates provides geotechnical engineering, geology, and environmental assessment services to both private and public sector clients. The firm also has an office in Seattle.
