Mackie Designs

Mackie Designs, a manufacturer of professional audio products based in Woodinville, named Corey Rivers its vice president of manufacturing. Rivers is returning to Mackie Design where he had worked from 1990 to 1996 when he left to pursue independent interests.

Broweleit Peterson Hammer Architects

Loubser Smith has joined Broweleit Peterson Hammer Architects (BPH) in Lynnwood. Smith brings eight years of architectural experience to the firm, following his graduation from the University of Orange Free State in South Africa. He is working on the new Elgen Bay Elementary School for the Stanwood School District in Snohomish County. Khuyen Dinh Phan joins BPH after working for Stemper Architects and Studio Four in Hawaii. Khuyen is working Timber Lake Christian Fellowship's new facility. Dennis Chivers joins BPH with experience in other Northwest architectural firms. Prior to joining BPH, he operated his own firm, DLC Architects. He is working on a new facility for Cascade Covenant in North Bend and on University Place Presbyterian's major addition. Pierce Sinnott joins the firm with 31 years of experience. Sinnott is working on a major addition to North Creek Presbyterian in Mill Creek. Incorporated in 1979, Broweleit Peterson Hammer Architects recently moved to a new office space in Lynnwood, which was originally a grocery store. The firm's major markets are religious and educational projects.

KPFF

Mark Veldee has been named principal at KPFF Consulting Engineers. Veldee is overseeing projects for a 1,000-acre Redmond Ridge Development for Quadrant, the Federal Way Park and Ride Lot 2 for Washington state's Department of Transportation and a new building for United Parcel Service. He recently managed the infrastructure design for Redmond Town Center, Sunset Corporate Campus and Bellevue Galleria. He will continue to focus on site development projects for both private and public clients. KPFF is a consulting engineering firm that provides structural and civil engineering design services. Seattle is headquarters for the 150-person firm, which has seven offices nationwide.

Penhallegon

Penhallegon Associates Consulting Engineers recently added and promoted several employees in its Kirkland office. Len Roughgarden has joined Penhallegon as a CAD project manager to support municipal and development services. Roughgarden has been a civil engineer in the Puget Sound region for more than 30 years. Some of the projects he has been involved with include water transmission improvements in Anacortes and the Lake Quinault sewage collection system for the National Forest Service. Vicki Grover has been hired as an entry-level engineer in the site development group. Grover recently received her bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington. She has provided designs for storm and water systems for the Lake Washington Technical College and storm conveyance calculations for North Creek. John McAlpine joined the firm one year ago and has recently been promoted from senior engineer to project engineer. He has been providing management, design and coordination for Highline Water District's Crestview-to-Mansion Hill pipeline. Penhallegon is a civil engineering, planning and surveying firm based in Kirkland. The firm also has offices in Federal Way and Cle Elum.

City of Seattle

The city of Seattle's Executive Services Department has promoted Paul Berry, Jun Quan and Teresa Rodriguez to senior capital project managers in the architecture and engineering section of the facilities services division.

Shannon & Wilson

Robert "Red" Robinson, vice president and director of underground services for Shannon & Wilson, was recently elected to the executive committee of the Rapid Excavation and Tunneling Conference (RETC). The RETC committee represents the U.S. tunneling industry by organizing biannual national meetings to present state-of-the- art of tunnel design and construction both nationally and internationally. Robinson will also be the Technical Committee Coordinator for the Underground Technology Research Council. He has 27 years of experience in investigation, design and construction management on over 250 tunnels, including the Interstate 90 Mount Baker Ridge Tunnel, downtown Seattle bus tunnels and the Tri-Met Westside Corridor Light Rail Tunnel. He is currently Shannon & Wilson's project manager for the tunnel portion of Sound Transit's Light Rail project.

The Austin Co.

The Austin Co., an international design, engineering and construction firm based in Cleveland has promoted John Harrington to vice president of design and engineering. Most recently, Harrington served as manager of design and engineering for Austin's regional office in Kansas City, Mo. The firm has offices in Britain and the United States, with a local office in Seattle.

TCA

The Tilt-Up Concrete Association is seeking entries for its 2000 Tilt-Up Achievement Awards competition for outstanding structures. Entries will be judged on four criteria: aesthetic appeal; creativity of structural and architectural design; unique application or end use; and setting new standards and advancements for the industry. Projects must have been completed between Sept. 1, 1998, and Sept. 1, 1999. The deadline for entries is Oct. 15. Winners will be announced Feb. 23 at the World of Concrete exposition at the Orlando Convention Center.

The Austin Co.

Cleveland-based The Austin Co. has appointed Mark W. Overman as director of project planning and development for its Northwest Region in Seattle. Overman comes from Heery International, where he was director of healthcare development. He has over 20 years of marketing and project management experience, and holds a bachelor's degree in architecture and environmental design from Ball State University.
