Mackie Designs

Mackie Designs, a Woodinville-based manufacturer of professional audio products, announced that it has accepted the resignation of chief executive officer and president, Roy Wemyss. Wemyss joined Mackie in 1996 and was promoted to CEO/President in April 1999. Wemyss will remain on the board of directors.

Systems Interface

Jim Brown has been hired by Systems Interface in Bothell as a project engineer. Brown will design, test and program industrial control systems. Prior to joining the company, he worked for Geco-Prakla in Houston. Founded in 1984, Systems Interface is an engineering firm that designs and manufactures control systems for the petrochemical, forest, nuclear, marine, aerospace and forest industries.

Black & Veatch

Bruce Kessler and Steve Burgos have joined the Seattle office of Black & Veatch as environmental engineers. Both will specialize in designing solutions to water and wastewater problems for municipal clients. Suzie Lim has also joined the firm as a project engineer for the Black & Veatch Solutions Group, which provides computerized management systems to power utilities as well as offering other high-tech services to industry. Black & Veatch is based in Kansas City.

Henry Brown is ARC's new administrative assistant.

Specializing in the design of community and recreation centers, ARC was recently selected for design of The Richland Center, Squaxin Island Tribal Housing, Easter Seals Uptown Center and Seattle Housing Authority's Hope VI Housing Redevelopment.

ARC Architects

The Seattle firm of ARC Architects has added four new employees. Robert Lee, who recently received a master's degree in architecture from the University of Washington, is currently assisting with the Northwest Center and is providing schematic design for the new Snoqualmie Ridge Development. Cine Ostrow, who recently received a bachelor's degree in Architecture from Rice University in Houston, is working on the design and rehabilitation of low-income, inner-city projects. Karin Richard, a graduate from the University of Cincinnati, is working on the design of the Gordon Residence, Port Angeles/Olympic MRI and programming for the Kindering Center.

KPFF

The Portland office of KPFF Consulting Engineers has hired several new employees. Tim Shell joins the firm as a senior project manager in the civil division. Formerly a project manager with the city of Vancouver, Ore., Shell's project management experience includes the Mill Plain Boulevard Extension and the 164th Avenue widening projects. Richard Boyle joins KPFF as a civil engineer/project manager. Boyle was formerly with Mitchell Nelson. His project experience at KPFF includes Millennium Park in Lake Oswego, Columbia County Jail in St. Helens and 15 West Coast site development projects for La Quinta Inns. Debra Ames has joined the firm as marketing director. Prior to joining KPFF, Ames was corporate marketing director for David Evans and Associates. Based in Seattle, KPFF is a consulting engineering firm that provides structural and civil engineering design services. The firm has seven offices nationwide.

Reid Middleton

Shaun McFarlane has joined Reid Middleton's waterfont group as a senior engineer. McFarlane comes to Reid Middleton from West Palm Beach, Fla., where he served as a senior coastal engineer for Applied Technology & Management Inc. He specializes in heavy civil marine construction, including harbors, marinas and related facilities and improvements. Mark Miyamoto, a recent graduate from the University of Wyoming, joins the firm as a staff engineer. As a college intern, Miyamoto was a plant operator for the City of Laramie Water Department, where he helped establish a mapping system for the city. He has also been a surveyor for Bothell-based Meriwether-Leachman Associates. Lance Lum also joins the firm as a staff engineer. Lum comes to the firm from Everett-based Higa Engineering, where he worked primarily on residential projects. Founded in 1953, Reid Middleton is a structural and civil engineering firm headquartered in Everett, with branch offices in Anchorage and Portland.

Freiheit & Ho

Karen Davis Smith has been promoted to associate at Freiheit & Ho Architects. Smith began at the firm in 1996 as an architectural draftsman and has worked on a variety of commercial, mixed-use and ecclesiastical projects. For the past year, she has managed the firm's account with the Starbucks Corp. She is also a project architect for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Meeting House being constructed in Snohomish. Elizabeth Lester has joined the firm as an associate. Previously, Lester was a project manager/designer at Graham Downes Design & Architecture in San Diego. Lester is working as the project architect for several new 24 Hour Fitness Health Clubs opening in the Northwest.

HNTB

Jeanne Caswell has joined the newly established Portland office of HNTB Corp. Caswell has been appointed director of operations. Prior to joining HNTB, she was a project manager for the city of Portland. HNTB is an engineering and architectural consulting firm based in Kansas City. Its West Coast offices are in Bellevue, Portland and several cities in California.

Berger/Abam

Bob Stromberg has recently joined Berger/Abam Engineers as a construction manager. Stromberg, who specializes in civil and electrical engineering, is working on a Bangladesh port development project for Stevedoring Services of America. He will be managing the Port of Seattle Terminal 18 project. Prior to joining the firm, he worked as a contract administrator for the Seattle District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Michael Kyte has joined the firm as a senior marine biologist. Kyte's experience includes marine biology resource assessment and mitigation, contaminated sediment studies, facilities site selection and damage assessment for oil spills. He is also a certified and experienced diver. Kyte is working on a marine outfall project for the Midway Sewer District and a replacement outfall project for Kitsap County. Amie Walton has joined the firm as a civil engineer. Prior to joining the firm, Walton participated in an internship program with ICF Kaiser, where she assisted with site investigations and traffic designs. She is working on the passenger-only ferry terminal project for the Washington State Ferries. Located in Federal Way, Berger/Abam is a subsidiary of Louis Berger International, an engineering consulting firm based in East Orange, N.J. Berger/Abam specializes in building, public works, transportation and waterfront projects.
