The Professional Engineering Practice Liaison Program at the University of Washington is offering a Dec. 3-4 class in Seattle on seismic site response analysis. Topics will include: local soil conditions; wave propagation fundamentals; dynamic soil properties; site response analysis; and site response effects. Bellevue's Foushee & Associates has hired Don Marshner as a project manager for its Tenant Improvement Department. Marshner holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Wisconsin. He has worked for architects and national retailers for the past 19 years.
The Pacific Northwest District of PCL Construction Services has promoted Darin Chestnut to manager of business development and Craig Warner to manager of special projects. Chestnut was previously manager of special projects. In his new role, Chestnut will direct all business development activities in the Pacific Northwest, including preliminary planning and preconstruction services. He holds bachelors' degrees in architecture and construction management/architectural studies from Washington State University. Warner has been with PCL since 1990, most recently serving as a project manager.

CIMA presents an Electronics and Construction Equipment Seminar; Key Technologies for the New Millennium. The seminar, to be held Dec. 6-7 at the Hotel Sofitel in Rosemont, Ill.,will feature CAN serial bus issues and perspectives, electromagnetic compliance/interference, project management strategies for engineers, mini-trade show highlighting new electronic devices and systems for construction equipment. Muzak, a Seattle-based provider of music, video, messaging and system design, announced two executive appointments. Steve Randall joined Muzak as executive vice president. Randall will be the managing executive for the Home Office Support Network, functioning as chief operating officer. Paul Mitchell was appointed vice president of national sales, taking over all sales-related responsibilities for Muzaks national sales organization.

Da Vinci Gourmet, a Seattle-based producer of gourmet flavored syrups, sauces and chocolate confections, appointed Bethanne Knebel as human resources manager. Knebel spent four years at Flow International Corp. as human resource manager. Randal Burroughs joins Da Vinci as quality assurance manager. Burroughs worked at the Strohs Brewery Co. in Detroit, where he held positions in the purchasing and engineering departments.

Steve Clarke has joined Parametrix as a senior engineer. Formerly a project manager with the city of Lynnwood, Clarke has worked on water, wastewater, stormwater and roadway capital improvement projects. Steve Elmer has joined the firm as a senior transportation planner. Prior to joining the firm, he was a senior planner at the Port of Seattle, where he focused on freight mobility projects. He has also worked for the Washington State Department of Transportation's planning office in Olympia. Based in Sumner, Parametrix is an employee-owned engineering, environmental sciences and architectural firm. The firm has seven offices throughout Washington and Oregon.
Robert Ramos has been promoted to information technology manager and safety manager at Mayes Testing Engineers. With offices in Everett and Tacoma, Mayes Testing Engineers provides materials testing and inspection services.
Karl Westby has joined Entranco as a transportation planner. Westby is leading the freight mobility segment of the transportation group. His work experience includes an intermodal access project on state Route 519 in south Seattle. Prior to joining Entranco, he worked for the Metropolitan Planning Organization in Kansas and the Washington State Department of Transportation on rail, trucking and shipping projects. He worked on similar projects in Southeast Asia, as a member of the U.S. delegation to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation. Entranco is a Bellevue-based engineering firm with offices in Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Utah.
Peter Randall has been appointed to senior electrical engineer at the Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG). Randall's marine industry experience includes service with the U.S. Coast Guard. Most recently, Randall was project manager for the $21 million refurbishment of the car and passenger ferry Cape May. He also wrote the U.S. technical regulations for the automation of ship engine rooms, which was a first for the industry and allowed for the use of failure analysis techniques. Based in Seattle, EBDG is a naval architecture and marine engineering firm.
Kevin Vanderzanden has become a partner in the firm as vice president of surveying at Dodds Engineers Inc. (DEI). Vanderzanden manages DEI's surveying, field survey operations, construction layout and staking. He is currently working on Lincoln Square, The Shumway, Avonlea and the Villas at Harbour Pointe. Robert Stevens has become a partner in DEI as project engineer. Stevens provides engineering design and project management services for a variety of developments, including Kensington and North Star. Curt Taylor has joined the firm as a land planner.
Several employees at Callison Architecture have been promoted to associate principal. Martin Anderson is a retail designer whose current work includes projects with Kinko's and the Space Needle. Prior to joining Callison, Anderson served as creative director of the Florida-based Pavlik Design Team, which does design work for Universal Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering. Elizabeth Buxton has 28 years of retail design experience. She has worked with major department store chains, including Bloomingdales Saks 5th Avenue, Harrods and Seibu. Judd Eddy is a project manager, who formerly worked with Prescott Development.
Bob Katica has recently been named a principal of Architects BCRA Tsang. Katica brings to the firm 22 years of architectural experience, which includes educational facilities, libraries, recreational facilities, office and commercial structures, performing arts facilities and historic preservation projects. Most recently, he has been a part of the design and management of Central Washington University's new science facility and the Seattle School District's Cooper Elementary School.
