Two designers, one from Rick Burnstead Construction and the other from Steven Burnstead Construction, have won a national citation of merit from Habitat for Humanity. Steve Ehrlich and Everett Seven won the award for designing a small home that is roomy enough for a family of five, yet was simple enough to be built by a group of volunteers.

Thomas Hacker & Associates, a Portland firm, has named three principals.
Elizabeth Williams, who has been with TH&A for 11 years, is currently the project architect for the College of Education Classroom Building at Washington State University.
William Dann, who has been with the firm for six years, is project manager for the firms higher education projects. Prior to joining the firm, he was a principal at the Leibman Melting Partnership in New York.
Kacey Jurgens, who has been with TH&A for nine years, specializes in library planning, programming and furnishings.
Kay Kornovich has joined MBT Architecture as an associate and director of the science technology group. MBT Architecture has offices in San Francisco and Seattle.
Frank Rytkonen has joined Systems Interface as a project engineer. He will design, test and program industrial control systems.
Prior to joining the company, Rytkonen was an electronic engineering technology instructor at the ITT Technical Institute in Bothell and a contract project engineer for General Electric.
Systems Interface is an engineering company in Bothell that designs and manufactures industrial control systems
Jennifer Shields has been hired at GeoEngineers as the marketing manager in the Portland office. Shields recently worked for Symonds Consulting Engineers.
Based in Redmond, GeoEngineers offers geotechnical, environmental, geologic, ground water, GIS and Endangered Species Act consulting services.
Steven Piscitello has been named a principal at 3E Design Group, an architectural firm in Spokane.
Piscitello has 25 years experience in architecture, specializing in design and project management for medical, educational, commercial and government facilities.
The Seattle office of the Northwest Architectural Co. has promoted several employees.
Guy Overman has been promoted to associate principal. Overman joined the firm three years ago. He is the project manager for the modernization of Renton High School and new Performing Arts Center and the new Emerald Ridge High School in Puyallup.
Mark Gifford and Malcolm Jollie have been promoted to senior associates. Gifford is the project manager for the new Camas High School for Camas School District. Jollie is the project manager for the expansion of the U.S. Border crossing at Pacific Highway in Blaine and the new Junior High School for Lake Washington School District.
Jackson Carter and Ben Hill have been promoted to associates. Carter is working on the Whidbey General Hospital master plan. Hill is the project architect for the Emerald Ridge High School.
