Candace and Geoff Daigle of Daigle Design, a Bainbridge Island graphic design and Web communications company, have been selected as members of the advisory board to Northwest College of Art. The college is located in Poulsbo and concentrates on studies in graphic design, multimedia and fine arts.
McCarthy's Northwest Division has hired three construction management graduates as project engineers. They include: Thomas Pesacreta, a graduate of Central Washington University, Timothy Hanson, a Washington State University graduate, and John Sharp, who is a graduate of California State University at Chico. Pesacreta has five years of industry experience, including work as a project coordinator, where he was responsible for checking submittals, logging and tracking change orders, bid requests and close out items. Hanson has over five years of experience, including a role as a project engineer, where he tracked submittals, processed change orders, performed estimating and assisted in other areas of project coordination and management. Sharp has over three years of experience, most recently as an intern field engineer.

President Clinton named Western Washington University chemistry professor David Patrick as one of 59 recipients nationwide of the 2000 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientist and Engineers. The award is the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on outstanding scientists and engineers who are in the early stages of establishing their independent research careers. Patrick received the award for creative research using liquid crystals to control the way molecules assemble on surfaces, and for his commitment to education.

Dan Thompson has been hired at Daigle Design, a graphic design and Web communications company in Bainbridge Island, as a graphic designer. Thompson is a recent graduate of Northwest College in Poulsbo.

Jim Persing has been hired at Bellevue-based Freiheit & Ho Architects as manager of the firm's new structural engineering division, called Advanced Structural Concepts. Persing has 31 years of professional experience. Advanced Structural Concepts provides structural engineering design, investigation and construction phase services for all types of new construction as well as modification of existing structures.
After 12 years of working with Hackworth Architecture/Planning of Seattle, Peggy Wyatt has been promoted to vice president of the firm. Wyatt leads most of the firm's major planning projects. In her new position, she will be more involved in the firm's management.

Paul Diedrich has been named associate at KPFF Consulting Engineers in Seattle. Specializing in high-profile structural engineering projects, Diedrich is the project manager for Immunex's new headquarters on Pier 90. His other recent work includes residential projects for Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen, the Shock Physics Research Facility at Washington State University designed by The Miller/Hull Partnership, and 1144 Eastlake with GTS Development and Teusch Partners. Prior to joining KPFF, Diedrich was a principal at TRA Architecture Engineering Planning Interiors Ltd.

Carla Thompson has been named principal and corporate marketing director at Bellevue-based Mulvanny G2 Architects. Thompson will be responsible for Mulvanny G2's corporate-wide strategic planning, firm image, communications and public relations. She has 20 years of architecture and engineering marketing experience and for 14 years was the director of marketing at Seattle-based Hart Crowser, an environmental consulting firm.

M. Jim Yamaguchi has been hired as a senior associate at Seattle-based Nakano Associates LLC. Yamaguchi has more than 20 years of professional landscape architecture experience. His current projects include the Fifth and Bell Building, Anacortes Public Library, Bellevue Transit Center, First Hill Light Rail, Friendly Grove Park, and Holly Park Phase Three. Nakano Associates specializes in landscape architecture, parks and recreation planning, and urban design for public and private clients.
Jeff Phillips has joined Boxwood, a Seattle architectural firm, as an intern architect. He is working on the Stillwater Creek Vineyard visitor center in Royal City, Wash., and is creating 3-D computer models of the McClellan Street light rail transit station in Seattle.
Hydro-Geosciences has hired three new employees. Jack Gardner has joined the firm as a project hydrogeologist. He has 11 years experience with geologic, geotechnical and environmental investigations, including projects for Sound Transit and the U.S. Department of Energy.
David Scofield, a senior engineering geologist/engineer, specializes in geologic hazards and geotechnical investigations, groundwater dewatering, water resources hydrogeology and tunnel projects. He is involved on a water resources project for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and soon will be working on Washington Department of Transportation projects. He was previously with the geotechnical branch of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Jean Strachan has joined the firm as a scientist and senior administrator for the Redmond office.
With offices in Redmond and Portland, Hydro-Geosciences provides services in geologic, hydrogeologic, geotechnical and geo-environmental consulting. The firm also performs geotechnical construction monitoring services for heavy civil and mining projects.
