The downtown watermain and sidewalk reconstruction project in the city of Port Angeles has won the American Public Works Association's 2001 Public Works Project of the Year Award in the category "Structures $2 million-$10 million." The city served as the managing agency for the project. The primary contractor for the first phase was Strider Construction Co. and the second phase was Primo Construction. The primary consultant on the first phase was URS Corp., and the second phase was the engineering department at the city. The association created the awards to promote excellence in the management and administration of public works projects by recognizing the alliance between the managing agency, the consultant/architect/engineer and the contractor.

MulvannyG2 Architecture recently hired Michael Tausher as a senior project manager and Brad Welch as an estimator at its Bellevue office. Tausher will be responsible for managing various Costco Wholesale projects in Texas. He is managing the development of a new Costco warehouse in Lewisville, Texas. Welch will assist in the estimating department along with helping develop the scheduling process for MulvannyG2 projects. He has more than 12 years of experience working in the construction industry.
MulvannyG2 has also promoted Cliff Hasert to associate, Chris Quandt to senior project manager and Daven Laxa to architectural technician. Hasert is a lead manager at MulvannyG2 and is currently managing various retail and office projects from schematic design through construction administration. He has worked on many of the firm's Seattle area commercial projects, most recently the 180,000-square-foot Unigard Park office campus in Bellevue.
Quandt manages retail and office projects from schematic design through construction administration. He is working on the 139,000-square-foot Advanced Technology Laboratory Research & Development Building in Bothell and various Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouses located throughout western U.S. Laxa manages the design and construction of Costco Wholesale's gas station projects, from permitting to final completion. He is working on Costco gas station projects in Carlsbad, Calif., Charleston, S.C. and Southlake, Texas.
Kennedy/Jenks Consultants announced that Amanda J. Aldersley and Oana O. Hemingway joined the firm’s Federal Way office. Aldersley has designed and implemented numerous phase I/II environmental site assessments and investigations in accordance with CERCLA, RCRA, DOD and local agency requirements. Hemingway is an environmental engineer with experience in water treatment, stormwater, permitting and soil/subsurface remediation and mapping. She recently designed a 15-mgd groundwater treatment facility for emergency uses such as drought or earthquake, for the East Bay Municipal Water District in Concord, Calif.
Jerry Fay has joined HDR as national program director for public works in the company's transportation business group. A professional engineer who served more than 12 years as the executive director of the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board, Fay will help direct the company's services to public works agencies.
Tacoma architect Peter T.S. Rasmussen has been elected chairman of the Western Conference of Architectural Registration Boards (WCARB). WCARB is Region 6 of the National Council of Registration Boards and includes 11 western states, Guam and Northern Mariana Islands. Rasmussen, a principal in the firm of Architects Rasmussen and Triebelhorn, is serving a second term on the state Architectural Board, which is a member board of WCARB.
Van Horne & Van Horne Architects recently promoted Donald E. Goe to principal. He joins Audrey Van Horne in managing the firm and providing principal-in-charge services.
Peratrovich, Nottingham & Drage announced that Jeff Fuchs has joined as senior engineer. Recent projects include Kirkland I-405 direct access HOV, South Everett Park & Ride conceptual engineering and state Route 18 Maple Valley Highway. He is working on the Snohomish River Trail project for the city of Snohomish and is project manager for the Skamokawa Vista Park Campground expansion project for the Port of Wahkiakum No. 2.
Sally Cox recently joined Perteet Engineering as a proposal manager. She develops responses to RFQs and RFPs showing the firm's strengths in transportation, surveying, environmental and civil site engineering for public and private projects. She creates and maintains corporate marketing materials, tracks marketing opportunities and represents the firm at business and community functions.
The American Institute of Certified Planners recently announced the induction of Bruce Laing of Seattle in membership of the Fellows of AICP. He was welcomed as a member of the College of Fellows on the basis on individual achievements in the field of urban and rural planning at a ceremony in New Orleans in June.
Laing has 39 years experience in planning and serves as a planning consultant and tri-county ESA coordinator for King, Snohomish and Pierce counties. He holds a B.A. from Seattle University, and a master's of urban planning from University of Washington
