Core Design

Jones
Core Design in Bellevue hired Matt Jones as a project manager for the Engineering Department and Edgar Salamanca in the Survey Department. Jones is LEED-accredited and will be involved in the civil engineering of residential projects in Redmond and Issaquah. Salamanca will provide AutoCAD mapping and surveying services. Core Design is a civil engineering, surveying, planning and landscape architecture firm.

They are Glen Gearhart, Ed Galliway, Christine Lasley, George Runne, Joseph Welch, Craig Chapman, Geoffrey Grice, Geir Mjelde and Ben Scougale. Gearhart is senior associate, has been at Mulvanny for 20 years and is the contact person for 400 Costco warehouse facilities nationally. Galliway is team captain and oversees construction projects in the Northwest region. Lasley is team captain and oversees projects in the Los Angeles and Hawaii areas. Runne is team captain and oversees construction in the Southeast region. Welch is team captain responsible for managing warehouses in the Northern California Bay area. Chapman is responsible for project management and training new team members for the Midwest region. Grice is project manager responsible for team building and remodeling in the Midwest regions. Mjelde is project manager responsible for managing properties in the Northwest. Scougale is project manager responsible for managing master drawings on the Costco operations team. MulvannyG2 is Costco's sole provider of construction documents and administration relations services.

Erdahl is working on the Mirabella Portland and the Mirabella Seattle. Sauser is working on projects in California and Oregon. Carothers leads the Quality Control/Spec Group. New senior associates in architecture are Carolyn Forsyth, Drew Rocker, Jeff Wilder, Jim Smith, Mack Selberg, Marty Buckenmeyer and Ricky Teh. New associates in architecture are Esther Cho Anunciado, Ken Canavarro, Tim Dacey, Warren Deloria, Michael Kapp, Steve Leary, Nathan Miller, Travis Olsen, Roger Superneau, Alan Taylor, Kina Voelz, Sara Vreed, Scott Waggoner, Celeste Warren and Ruth Wu. HV Engineering

HV Engineering promoted Brian Roetcisoender from senior mechanical engineer to vice president/principal and Stephen Bloedel from mechanical designer to senior mechanical designer. Roetcisoender is LEED-accredited and has experience designing mechanical systems for commercial, industrial, private and public sector clients. He is working on several energy saving renovation projects involving boiler plant and air side heat recovery system upgrades. Bloedel has worked on designing building mechanical systems for commercial, private and public sector clients and is working on several large, multi-use projects.

IA Interior Architects

IA Interior Architects announced new hires and promotions. Richard Smith in Denver is promoted to principal. Andrew J. Patapoff in Denver and Chad A. Wentz in Denver are promoted to senior associate. Chien Chen in Seattle, Swati Deshpande in Silicon Valley and Nancy Heywood in Seattle are promoted to associate. Chen and Heywood are both LEED-accredited. IA is headquartered in San Francisco and provides interior architecture, planning and design services for corporations, businesses and institutions internationally.

Ankrom Moisan Associated Architects added new staff members. Interior designers Carrie Smith and Sarah Smallwood will launch the interiors department for the Seattle office. Smith has 15 years experience and was the project interior designer for The Pearl of the Gulf, a reclaimed manmade island off the coast of Qatar. She is working on a golf clubhouse and a mixed-use development pursuing LEED platinum and Living Building Challenge levels of sustainable design. Smallwood has experience in retail and hospitality work, and is working on Mirabella Portland, a 30-story senior housing tower in the South Waterfront District, and a variety of projects for Simpson Development. Monika Araujo is an interior designer working on space planning and interior design for several TI projects. Jason Newell is a drafter who is working on the Seven Feathers Casino. David Dearth is a drafter who comes from a mechanical drafting/design background and is working on the Vista Pointe mixed-use office and retail project in Medford, Ore. Melissa Guarin, Jesse Walt, Cassandra Holliday, Oscar Campos and Tricia Miyashiro are intern architects. Guarin wants to combine her interests in senior housing and sustainable design. Walt is working on McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurants and a mixed-use project in Gresham, Ore. Holliday is part of the Special Projects Team and is working on a mixed-use project and on design development for a ParrLumber TI in Northwest Portland. Campos is working on Cannon Beach Lodges. Miyashiro is working on an expansion at Pacific Retirement Services in Eugene, Ore.

USKH promoted Tim Vig to president and added Tricia Waggoner as manager of the Environmental Services Division. Vig has 25 years experience and has been involved in planning, design and construction throughout Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. Vig replaces Jim Huettl, who is now chief executive officer. Waggoner worked with Natural Resource Group of Minneapolis where she was Alaska office manager.

McGranahan Architects re-hired Darrin Filand as a senior designer. During Filand's previous tenure with the firm, he led design of the aviation trades facility for Clover Park Technical College and the East Wing renovation for Bates Technical College. His current focus is the Lake Washington High School modernization.

Berger/Abam Engineers promoted Robert Fernandes to vice president of the Public Works and Transportation Department. He succeeds Jim Guarre who will continue with the firm in providing guidance. Fernandes has worked with Berger/Abam for 23 years and advanced to leading the Seattle office team in 2005 as senior project manager. His focus has been transportation-related structures, tunnels, and structures for waterfront and marine facilities. Kaushal Shah is branch manager of the Las Vegas office. Shah has been providing structural engineering for building and transportation projects for 11 years. Thomas Wilcox, branch manager of the Portland office, has been promoted to vice president. He has 17 years experience in civil engineering and construction management for transportation, water resources and land development.

The Seattle office of Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects added eight new employees. Sara Howell has joined the Architectural Group and is working on Microsoft Building 81 and Building 83 on the recently acquired Safeco Redmond campus. Howell last worked in Vermont on a new corporate headquarters for Seventh Generation and an addition to a LEED gold building for Wind NRG Systems. Gi Young Oh joined the Architectural Group and is working on Microsoft Building 81 and Building 83. Kerwin Robinson has joined the IT Group as a desktop and printer support technician. Robinson worked in New York for Fleishman Hillard. Michelle Gunderson is an architectural draft person. She is working on Seattle Cancer Center Alliance and Seattle Children's Hospital projects. Annie Nam joined the Administrative Group as executive assistant to design partner Allyn Stellmacher. Nam was manager of FLÓ, a Japanese restaurant in Bellevue. After interning with the office last summer, Katie Troy has joined the Interiors Group. She graduated from Washington State University and is working on a master palette project for Franciscan Health Systems. Jeff Libby is an intern from the University of Cincinnati and is working on a master plan for the St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma.

BHC Consultants hired Bard Horton as a principal engineer, Mark Morrow as a staff engineer and Nick Kindel as a planning intern. Horton has 20 years experience and has designed solid waste transfer stations and landfills, leachate treatment and conveyance facilities, performed stormwater drainage studies and designed stormwater management facilities. Current projects include the Riverfront Development, Leachate Collection and Landfill Gas Facility for Everett and Cedar Hills Landfill Area 7 design for King County. Morrow is providing engineering support on projects for Highline Water District and Kitsap County. Kindel assists BHC's Planning Group.

Otak

Otak added 10 new professionals in six offices. In Seattle, Otak hired Allisa Carlson, Ted Udhus and Gregory Thompson. Carlson joined Otak with experience managing the expansion of an elementary school and as a planner for the U.S. Forest Service. Udhus will manage projects for a client who wants to expand its presence nationally. Thompson, job captain on the Architecture Team, has 10 years experience managing commercial, mixed-use and residential projects in the Puget Sound region. In Kirkland, Otak hired Jeff Lumsden and Josh Christofferson. Lumsden is a field technician in the Survey and Mapping Group. He has experience working with the Seattle Conservation Corps on projects for the Port of Seattle and regional parks. Christofferson, a party chief in Otak's Survey and Mapping Team, has done survey and mapping projects in Laramie, Wyo. At the Lake Oswego, Ore., headquarters, Brett Jordan joined the Water and Natural Resources Team and Christopher Yotter-Brown joined the Survey and Mapping Team. Jordan is an engineer. Yotter-Brown has nine years of surveying experience. HLB-Otak's Gearhart, Ore., office added engineer-in-training Adam Dailey. Dailey has worked on projects in Astoria, Ore., and Columbia, Mo. The Bend, Ore., office hired Dan Cady as survey technician and crew chief. Cady has 11 years of surveying experience. The Tempe, Ariz., office hired Geoffrey Brady to its Landscape Architecture and Planning Team.
