PCS Structural Solutions promoted
Jim Harris in the Seattle office and
Gary Beckner in the Tacoma office to associates. Harris' past projects include the Ballard Branch of the Seattle Library. He is working on a private art gallery on Waikiki and homes in Broadmoor, Los Angeles and Colorado, and on several biotech labs such as the expansion of Seattle Genetics. Beckner has been with the firm for 31 years and is working on an expansion of the DSHS office in Aberdeen, major renovations and additions of Pease & Sons offices and warehouse, and renovation of historic Civilian Conservation Corps log structures at state parks in Washington. Beckner recently provided the structural design for three new sawmill sites in Washington.
Sparling hired
Rick Dorrell as technology project manager and
Mark Lenney as technology project designer in the Portland office. Dorrell has expertise in health care, working for 10 years as a technology consultant and engineer for a major health care provider in the Portland area. As project manager for Sparling's technology consulting practice, he is working on Clackamas Community College, Salem Hospital Building B, the Southwest Washington Medical Center Pain Clinic, and infrastructure evaluation and documentation for the Iberdrola Renewables wind farm. Lenney has experience as a hardware design engineer and architect, and is an extra class amateur radio enthusiast. He is working on the Tillamook County 911 Center mobile data project, Tillamook County PUD radio upgrades, and Oregon State Police and Washington State University lab shielding.
INCA Engineers hired six new employees in its mechanical/electrical engineering department in Bellevue.
Karlheinz Simon is a senior mechanical engineer with 44 years of experience. He is working on the inner harbor navigation canal project in New Orleans.
Armin Gerdes is a mechanical engineer with 40 years of experience in the design of mechanical machinery and welded structures.
Scott Van Leuven is a senior mechanical engineer with 14 years of experience, including pump station and crane design.
Slava Stevens is a mechanical designer with 12 years of experience specializing in mechanical product development, tooling and machine design, 3D modeling, writing and designing drawings with CAD, Solidworks and Dassault (Catia) programs.
Ginette Chin is an electrical engineer with 19 years of electrical engineering experience in mixed-use, office, biotech, and hospital facilities as well as municipal wastewater and airfield lighting projects.
Poovaiah Devenira is a mechanical engineer who recently earned a master's degree.
Environmental planning, design and construction services firm Brown and Caldwell hired four staff members in the Seattle office. Marvin Moore is a supervising engineer and project manager with more than 20 years of experience in wastewater management study and design. John Novak and David Wingate have also joined the wastewater practice. Novak specializes in mechanical engineering and Wingate specializes in civil engineering. Dan Draheim also joined the firm as a technical writer and editor.

Wilson Engineering hired
Michael F. Matthes as senior project manager in Bellingham. Matthes has 20 years of experience as a civil engineer and project manager at educational campuses, hospitals, commercial centers and residential communities in Florida, California and British Columbia. His expertise will expand Wilson's public infrastructure practice.
INCA Engineers promoted six employees to department and group managers in its Bellevue office. New department managers are
Lisa Pierce, structural department manager;
Sandy Glover, transportation department manager; and
Hassan Tondravi, mechanical department manager.
Perry Cole was promoted to deputy mechanical department manager. New group managers are
Ahmet Ozkan, bridge and rail group manager, and
James Costello, navigation group manager. Pierce is a manager with 20 years of engineering experience, specializing in structural studies, analysis and design. She has designed and managed large projects including navigation studies, lock designs, Panama Canal water saving basin concepts, bridges, deep foundations and prestressed and post-tensioned concrete structures. Glover has 20 years of experience in project management and design engineering for roadways, transit centers, parking lots, bridges and intersections. Tondravi has 40 years of mechanical design experience in hydroelectric power, pumping plants and other water resource and utility projects in the U.S. and abroad. Cole has 30 years of experience in planning, design and construction of hydroelectric and water resource projects, and is integral to developing the company's hydroelectric services. Ozkan has 19 years of experience designing concrete and steel bridges including segmental, truss, arch, cable-stayed, suspension and movable bridges for highway projects, light rail and freight rail projects, and pedestrian multi-use projects. He is leading a team of structural engineers to design a track bridge over the I-90 floating bridge that will be the world's first light rail vehicle crossing over a floating bridge. Costello has 19 years of experience in design for floating, float-in, and in-the-wet hydraulic structures.
Helix Design Group hired
Jennifer Weddermann-Hay as an architect with particular focus on business development. Weddermann-Hay has 15 years of experience and her past projects include work at Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, condominium projects in Tacoma, and office, higher education and retail projects. She is also an artist and welder, with public and private commissions including a large steel sculpture at the Landing at Hawks Prairie in Lacey.
