Berger Partnership hired Todd Bronk as an associate and Vandita Mudgal as a design staff member. Bronk has 12 years of experience designing urban open spaces, houses and waterfronts in Asia and the United States. He focuses on integrating landscape architecture, ecology and engineering. He is project manager for the Redmond Central Connector linear park and trail. Mudgal has degrees and experience in architecture and landscape architecture. Her experience ranges from housing to low-impact development in developing countries. Seattle-based Berger provides landscape architectural and site planning services.




Seattle-based NK Architects hired Tom Steidl as managing associate, Luke Held as project architect, and Marie Ljubojevic and Steve Fischer as project managers. Steidl has 12 years of experience combining business and design on projects ranging from stadium master plans to homes in the Los Angeles area. Steidl will focus on business development, multifamily and large-scale commercial projects. Held has 17 years of experience in envelope detailing and sustainability on commercial developments and homes. He will focus on multifamily and commercial projects. Ljubojevic has 11 years of experience in single-family and multifamily residential. She has background in international development and commercial real estate. Ljubojevic will focus on multifamily and single-family. Fischer has 20 years of architecture and design experience in California and Washington. He specializes in feasibility studies and conceptual design, and has a background in graphic presentation and renderings. Fischer will focus on housing and retail.
Jacobs Associates civil engineering firm hired William C.B. Gates as senior associate in its Seattle office. Gates holds a Ph.D. and specializes in geotechnical and rock engineering, blasting and hydrogeology. He has 44 years of experience with engineering geology and geotechnical problems. His background includes photogeologic terrain and fracture trace analysis, fracture flow and fracture mechanics. Gates is lead rock engineer on Seattle City Light's Boundary Dam Rockfall mitigation in Metaline. He is a retired U.S. Army Special Forces officer.
DLR Group hired Cassie Alexander as an interior designer, Tim Ganey as an architect, Joel Gragg as a marketer, Bernt Johnson as a structural designer, Thomas Schubert as an electrical designer, Erik Turner as a mechanical designer, and Aaron Asis and Denny Burke as intern architects. DLR provides architecture, engineering, planning and interior design.

Mithun promoted Brendan Connolly to partner, Roger Gula to principal, and Erin Christensen and Lynn McBride to associate principals. Connolly, past vice-president of the Seattle Design Commission, focuses on projects with educational components, including the Summit Bechtel National Scout Reserve in West Virginia and the LEED platinum Walking Mountains Science Center in Avon, Colo. Gula's experience includes tenant improvements on Google's Mountain View, Calif., campus, and student housing and mixed-use projects. Christensen's work uses district-scale sustainability and community health indicators in planning and urban design projects such as the EcoDistrict Initiative for the Portland Sustainability Institute. McBride's work includes expanding the Coeur d'Alene Tribe's Resort in Worely, Idaho, to add a hotel.

Gensler, a design, planning and strategic consulting firm, hired Karen Thomas as managing director of the Seattle office. She will work to diversify the firm's projects and improve client service. Thomas worked at her own firm, Thomas & Thomas architecture and interiors, until 2010. Most recently, she was deputy director at The Henry Art Gallery.




Golder Associates Pacific Northwest operations hired Denise Carscadden as a senior engineer, Roozbeh Foroozan as a project engineer, William Hoose as a senior environmental/land use planner and Joseph Toth as a staff engineer. Carscadden has experience in environmental compliance, and will work in the Redmond remediation group. Foroozan specializes in geomechanics and fractured reservoir modeling, and is working on a hydrofracture simulation of a shale project in Colorado. Hoose will specialize in comprehensive plans and the California Environmental Quality Act, and is working on the March Joint Powers Authority General Plan. Toth transferred to Redmond from Golder's Anchorage office, where he has worked since 2007. He is in Suriname working on a feasibility study for a gold mine tailings storage facility. Golder is a ground engineering and environmental consulting firm.

BHC Consultants hired Kenneth Gray as a staff engineer. Gray is an engineer-in-training and holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington. He is providing engineering support on industrial wastewater projects. BHC is a municipal services consulting firm serving the public sector.

BCRA hired Ray Vefik as a project manager for its health care studio in Tacoma. Vefik has 30 years of experience as an architect, focusing on inpatient hospital design, medical office buildings, dental clinics, and surgical and ambulatory centers. BCRA provides architecture, interior design, building science, engineering, planning, resource management, visual communication and marketing strategy.

Brent Planning Solutions hired Paula Townsell as a special project consultant. She will do environmental assessments and due diligence research in land use regulations and project permitting. Townsell has more than 30 years of permitting and environmental assessment experience. Brent is a permitting and environmental consulting firm.
