The Orcas Island Seventh Day Adventist Church and Orcas Christian School opened earlier this year on a partially-wooded three-acre site just north of Eastsound. The two-building development fulfills the worship needs of the Orcas Adventist congregation and provides a private school open to all K-6 children on Orcas and the other San Juan islands.

The 1,620-square-foot church was designed in a country style by Lewis Architects of Bellevue. It features a full-emersion baptistery located under the pulpit and a sound system with through-the-wall speakers and bass traps in the corners above the cry and music rooms.
An antique brass bell can be rung by pulling a rope in the foyer of the church.
The school is 4,588 square feet. It features two classrooms, an office, restrooms and a fellowship space.

Overall project cost was about $225 a square foot without furnishings.
The general contractor was Pearson Construction of Bellingham. Structural engineering was performed by Hudson Associates of Seattle, and civil engineering was handled by Layton & Sell of Redmond. Pearson's project manager was Steve Reynolds.
The Lewis team included: John Cannon, principal in charge; Stig Carlson and Debbie Anderson, project architects; and Kim Parsley, interior designer.
