BELLEVUE -- Unity Wireless Corporation has hired Norman Dowds to the company's management team. He will be assisting with direction of the company's wireless technologies, technology transfer, licensing and acquilsition initiatives. Dowds has 25 years experience working with telecommunications companies such as Microtel, MPR Teltech and GTE's research and development unit and Starvision.

SEATTLE -- Ronald L. Bueing has been elected director of Deloitte & Touche's State and Local Tax Group. Bueing specializes in Washington business and occupation tax and sales and use taxes. He is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Showplace Design & Remodeling

REDMOND -- Three designers from Showplace Design & Remodeling were recognized by the National Kitchen & Bath Association in its 2000 design contest. Diane Foreman was awarded first place in the large bath/renovation category. Delores Hyden received second place in the large bath/new construction category. Fay Liner was recognized with an honorable mention in the large kitchen/renovation category.

Speakeasy.net, a Seattle-based internet service provider, announced it has acquired local ISP JetCity.com. Speakeasy now has over 10,000 customers in 50 cities; The acquisition adds nearly 1,000 customers. JetCity.com's previous owner and founder, John Powell, will be working closely with Speakeasy for several months to ensure a smooth transition for JetCity customers.

InterWest Bank

Oak Harbor-based InterWest Bank has hired Michael Besselievre as its senior vice-president and chief information officer. Besselievre will be in charge of information systems and data storage. InterWest Bancorp is a Pacific Northwest community bank holding company, operating 55 financial centers and offices in Washington through its bank subsidiary InterWest Bank.

Seneca

Bart Heath has joined the Seneca Real Estate Group as project manager. He was previously with The Boeing Company, managing projects in the Peoples' Republic of China and in the Pacific Northwest, including Boeing Commercial Airplane Group Headquarters. He is currently project manager for the Collins Library Renovation, the Jones and Howarth Halls Renovation and a new residence hall, all on the University of Puget Sound Campus in Tacoma.

INCA

Richard Stoddard has recently joined INCA Engineers of Tacoma as a senior project manager. He was recently a principal with SC Solution, and managed the Olympia branch office. Before that, he served as the State's Assistant Bridge Construction Engineer in the construction office of the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Jerry McMurry has joined the firm as a senior structural engineer, and he will be responsible for the design of bridges, light and heavy rail structures and retaining walls. Previously McMurry worked for WSDOT for 31 years.

Jennifer Nottingham has joined INCA as a design engineer in the structural department. She recently worked for Foster Wheeler Environmental in Bothell and for Peratrovich Nottingham & Drage in Anchorage. She has a bachelor's degree in Ocean Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Jones & Stokes

Jeannie Brush has joined the Bellevue office of Jones & Stokes as a land use planner, with specialties in permitting, cultural resources management and historic preservation. She will be working on various development and telecommunications projects.

Sarah Brandt has joined the firm as a policy analyst specializing in habitat and conservation planning, water policy planning and public involvement activities. She holds a bachelor's degree in environmental science and public policy from Harvard University and before joining Jones & Stokes she worked on Safe Drinking Water Act implementation for a firm in Massachusetts.

David Janis has joined Jones & Stokes as a land use and environmental planner with expertise in environmental impact analysis, permitting and siting studies, and he will be working on telecommunications projects. He has 20 years of consulting experience with a variety of clients, including the State of Montana, the Bonneville Power Administration, a lumber mill in Klickitat County and the U.S. Forest Service.

Gregory A. Poremba has been named team leader of the Jones & Stokes northwest telecommunications team. He has been with the firm for six years, managing and conducting socioeconomic analyses for environmental assessments throughout Washington, Oregon and the Western U.S. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Washington State University.

Daniel Jones has joined the firm as a botanist and biologist who has worked with environmental issues in both public agency and private sector positions, and specializes in field survey work in the Northwest. He is a member of the Society of Wetland Scientists, Society for Ecological Restoration, Northwest Scientific Association, Washington Native Plant Society, Botanical Society of America, and the North American Mycological Association.

Richard K. Oestman was promoted to environmental scientist, specializing in aquatic biology. He will manage aquatic studies at Jones & Stokes, including water quality investigations, aquatic habitat assessments and analysis of environmental impacts.

Michael McNabb has been named field biologist with Jones & Stokes. His experience has included conducting fish habitat assessment and assisting with channel analysis as part of the U.S. Forest Service requirements for Snoqualmie Pass ski areas.

Jamie Gray is a new member of the firm's environmental planning team, specializing in environmental policy and planning and watershed regulation issues. She has a bachelor's degree from Western Washington University.

GeoEngineers

Dave O'Day has joined Redmond-based GeoEngineers as principal and office manager of the new Boise office. Doug Argo has relocated to the Boise office the Bellingham office of GeoEngineers.

Roth Hill

Mike Lemasa of Roth Hill Engineering Partners has passed the Washington State Professional Land Surveyors license. He is the survey party chief for the firm, and has over 15 years of experience in the field. He has assisted in the development of field techniques and procedures specific to electronic data collection systems.

Fletcher Farr Ayotte

Five new staff members have joined Fletcher Farr Ayotte of Portland.

Doug Circosta has 17 years of experience in the design of mixed use, multi- and single family housing. He is currently working on Phase II of the Village at Lovejoy Fountain, New Edge Networks and North Macadam Master Plan.

Katrina Shum Miller was educated in New Zealand and England and has six years of experience in architecture. At FFA, she is at work on district development at North Macadam, space planning for Multnomah County and a development study for Tri-Met.

Mike Shea has 20 years of experience in commercial, industrial and housing projects, and is now at work on projects for PS Business Parks, Opus Northwest, and high tech companies.

Paul Strassmaier, an accountant with 10 years of experience with professional services firms, will take over as FFA's office manager at the end of this year.

Colleen Sutton has joined the firm as receptionist. She comes from ALSC Architects in Spokane. Angie Lawless, who previously worked at the front desk, has moved into the marketing department at FFA as part time support staff. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois' theater program.

Steve Olson, founding partner of Dull Olson Weekes Architects, was recently elected president of the Oregon and Southwest Washington chapter of the Council of Educational Facility Planners International. Olson has played an active role in CEFPI for over ten years, and specialized in educational architecture, completing numerous projects throughout the Northwest.

US Bancorp Piper Jaffray, a national full-service investment firm, announced that Michael Black has joined the Seattle mergers and acquisitions group as an associate. Black was a corporate finance associate with Ragen MacKenzie, a Pacific Northwest regional investment firm, prior to joining Piper Jaffray.

Christopher Tompkins, chair of the complex litigation practice group at the Seattle law firm Betts, Patterson & Mines, was elected to the executive committee of the International Association of Defense Counsel. The Counsel was formed in 1920 and serves to foster cooperation among the leading corporate, insurance and private counsel worldwide.

The system then serves up a training applet with a brief learning topic, followed by a quiz. Users receive immediate feedback on their answers on the wireless devices.
