Two employment attorneys, Melanie McClure and Mark Whitmore, have joined the Seattle office of law firm Davis Wright Tremaine as associates. McClure, formerly an employment attorney at Alltel Corporate Services in Little Rock, Ark., concentrates her practice on human resources counselling. Whitmore concentrates his practice on employment discrimination litigation. Prior to joining Davis Wright Tremaine, he was with the Seattle law firm of Bullivant Houser.
Mark Hough and Anthony Rafel have joined the Seattle law of Riddell Williams. Hough practices commercial litigation emphasizing trademark, copyright, trade secret, non-compete, business torts and antitrust law. Rafel's practice focuses on the litigation and trial of disputes involving real estate transactions and condominium construction, labor and employment issues, and contract and tort matters.
Tom LaPaze has been promoted to vice president/director of new technologies at hunt.DDBdirect, the direct and online marketing arm of DDB Seattle, a full-service communications company. LaPaze, in his fifth year at hunt.DDBdirect, pioneered the company's Internet activities in the mid 1990s and has directed them since. Prior to his promotion, he served as an account supervisor.
Wells Fargo has opened an SBA Lending office in Seattle to provide business and real estate loans to small business owners throughout western Washington. Staffed by business development officer Diana Thompson, the office provides entrepreneurs with loans guaranteed by the SBA. Tousley Brian, a Seattle-based full-service law firm, announced that Kathleen Hopkins has become an owner of the company and John Zahner and Laura Pilkington have become associated with the company. Hopkins concentrates her practice in the areas of real property, real property finance, commercial leasing and bankruptcy. Zahner joins the firm’s commercial litigation practice. Pilkington concentrates her practice in the areas of commercial real estate, real property, commercial leasing and corporate law.
David Katri, former president and chief operating officer of the Fluke Corp., was hired as chief operating officer of Clark Nuber, a Bellevue-based public accounting and consulting firm. Katri’s will be responsible the for strategic planning and overall management of the company.
Paul Lange, professor and chair of the Department of Urology at the University of Washington has been named the first holder of the Wilma Wise Nelson, Ole A. Nelson and Mabel Wise Nelson Endowed Chair in Urology. Lange is a nationally recognized surgeon and researcher. Wilma Wise Nelson willed the endowment to the Department of Urology in honor of the Nelson family. Her father, Ole Nelson, was a prominent Seattle urologist who pioneered numerous surgical and diagnostic techniques.
Foster Pepper Shefelman, a northwest law firm, has added Andrew Lane to its land use and environment practice groups as of counsel in its Seattle office. Lane’s practice places emphasis on growth management and land use planning
Erin Maher joined Seattle-based Harbor Properties as marketing director for real estate near Harbor's ski resorts, starting with the village at Schweitzer Mountain in Sandpoint, Idaho. Maher previously worked as a business and marketing consultant for commercial real estate companies. Prior to that, she owned Maher Advertising.
Office investment broker Craig Hill has returned to Grubb & Ellis, but on the Eastside. Hill worked in Grubb's Seattle office until he jumped about two years ago to Norris Beggs & Simpson's Bellevue office as Norris Beggs sought to gear up. Now he has returned to Grubb with a Bellevue phone number.
Seattle investor Tom Leavitt's P.B. Investments bought another industrial property in Kent Valley. P.B. paid $2.75 million for a 60,000-square-foot building on five acres at 5802 S. 228th St. in Kent. The seller was an arm of Kirkland-based Precision Aerospace. Pacific Propeller, also a Precision company, will continue leasing the structure from P.B.
The deal comes on the heels of P.B.'s recent purchase of the 78,367-square-foot West Valley Commerce Center, also in Kent. Jim Edris, director of operations at P.B. Investments, said the company is expanding its industrial portfolio in the Kent and Tukwilla area because of "diminution" of the Seattle market.
Kirkland residential developer Doug Waddell paid a Mac Brody partnership $6 million, or $100,000 per unit, for the Lake Vista Apartments at 10258 Northeast 68th St. in Kirkland. The seller was Brody's Lake Vista Associates. Waddell said he'll upgrade the plumbing, siding, windows and carports, among other repairs and keep the 60-unit property as an investment. Broker Robert Sheppard of Marcus & Millichap represented Brody.
The new Uwajimaya Village under construction in Seattle's International District signed the following retail tenants: Washington Mutual Bank, Tully's Coffee, Chinois Restaurant, Kinokuniya bookstore, Inay's Kitchen restaurant and Shilla Korean BBQ. The grocery-and-apartment project is on schedule for completion in November; 98 percent of the 171 apartments are rented, said Alan Kurimura, Uwajimaya's real estate and special projects manager.
PM Realty Advisors hired Insignia/ESG to manage a large Kent industrial complex. Kent Distribution I and II, located at 22615 64th Ave. Southeast, total 520,036 square feet. Insignia also received the job of overseeing PM's Chrysler and SPM distribution centers in the Portland, Ore., area.
Kevin Kaseff became managing director in acquisitions for Insignia Financial Services. Kaseff will work out of Los Angeles with responsibility for joint ventures throughout the western United States and Asia.
Re/Max Canyon Park Realty in Bothell combined with Re/Max Northwest Realtors in Seattle to become Re/Max Northwest Realtors. The residential agency will continue to operate out of both locations.
