Imagio, a Seattle-based advertising and public relations has hired eight new employees for the agency's Internet/e-commerce public relations division. Cate Bick, Lara Nieto and Debra Preitkis were hired as senior account executives. Nick Davis is a new account executive. Jennifer Boyeson was hired as an assistant account executive. Angela Brunhaver, Marylyn Holdgrafer and Derwynn Dominguez were hired as account coordinators.
Foster Pepper & Shefelman, a Northwest law firm with offices in Seattle, will host the 19th Annual Civil Service Conference Tuesday, Sept. 19, and Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. The Seattle office of the Department of Revenue is holding a free New Business Outreach workshop to help new and small businesses understand how to report their state taxes. Safeco, a Seattle-based financial services company, has named Greg Copeland regional vice president of its Hartford region. Copeland, formerly manager of personal lines insurance for Safeco's Atlanta region, started his career with Safeco in 1980 and has held a number of positions in the Nashville and Atlanta offices.
Dan Thiessen has been named executive chef at The Golf Club at Newcastle in Newcastle. Thiessen will oversee culinary production for the Calcutta Grill and other venues in the clubhouse and around the golf courses and practice facilities. Thiessen moves to Newcastle from The Space Needle Corp.

Paul Johnson has been named Mount Baker Area administrator for the Washington State Department of Transportation. The department's Northwest Region comprises five geographical areas, the Mount Baker area being the northernmost. Johnson has more than 30 years of experience with the department, most recently serving as assistant regional administrator for engineering support and speciality services.
Award-winning video producer Karen Brandvick-Baker has joined Seattle-based public relations firm, Gogerty Stark Marriott as project manager. Prior to joining the firm, Brandvick-Baker was director of communications for Family Services, one of the Seattle region's oldest non-profit agencies where she managed media relations, brand management, video production and internal and external communications.
Williams, Kastner & Gibbs, a Seattle-based law firm, announced that firm member Judd Lees has been elected to the position of president of the Bellevue Rotary Club for the year 2000 - 2001. As an active member of the Bellevue and Seattle communities, Lees is a past president of the Bellevue Schools Foundation, past president of the Western Washington Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, past trustee for the Washington Chapter of Associated General Contractors and is currently a director-at-large on the Bellevue PTA council.
Dr. Wylie Burke, associate professor of medicine in the University of Washington School of Medicine's Division of Medical Genetics, has been named chair of the Department of Medical History and Ethics. Her appointment is effective October 1, pending approval by the UW Board of Regents. Burke is a faculty member in the UW's Public Health Genetics Program and in the Medical Genetics Training program. She has also previously served as associate director of the Internal Medicine Residency program.
