Unico hires a senior vice president

Seattle-based Unico Properties hired a seasoned executive who had sold his stake in a Colorado company that managed ski resort condominiums.

Jeff Shipley joined Unico as a senior vice president in charge of property management and leasing for Unico's roughly 7 million-square-foot office portfolio.

Shipley took the job previously held by Don Wise, who moved into a new position of senior vice president of investment management services. Unico described Wise's new job as "more strategic." Wise's responsibilities will include investment performance, strategic planning and partner relations.

Shipley was a co-owner of High Country Resorts in Crested Butte, Colo., until that company's March 1999 sale to publicly traded ResortQuest International. Shipley said he worked for ResortQuest after the sale until he recently joined Unico.

High Country grew from the smallest to the largest rental manager in its market during Shipley's tenure, according to Unico. High Country managed 300 condos for short-term users, he said.

Shipley also previously worked as a senior vice president and central Atlantic region manager for LaSalle Partners, where he oversaw property and asset management for about 8 million square feet.

Shipley's daughter attended the University of Washington. Visiting her exposed Shipley and his wife to the Northwest, so he looked for a job here, he said.

Shipley served 3.5 years on the Crested Butte City Council and left before his term expired. He said he harbors no political aspirations here. He and his wife are enjoying immersing themselves in "urban life" after living the past seven years "in the mountains," he said.

Unico also promoted Larry Klatt and Pat McCabe to regional vice president. Klatt's title includes "suburban group manager" while McCabe is downtown group manager.
