Bratrud Middleton Insurance appointed Willa N. McCarthy as corporate secretary. McCarthy joined Bratrud Middleton in 1984, most recently serving as accounting manager for the Tacoma-based firm.
Edward M. Pasatiempo is the new president of operations solutions/Pacific Northwest at Electronic Data Systems. Previously, Pasatiempo was president and chief operating officer at Versatile Mobile Systems in Lynnwood. Pasatiempo will oversee customer relations and business development throughout Washington, Oregon and Alaska. EDS has more than 900 employees in Washington at offices in Federal Way, Tacoma, Bellevue, Vancouver, Poulsbo and Seattle. The company provides e-business and information technology services to more than 9,000 businesses and government clients in 50 countries.
Michael Wasem, a specialist in transportation and industrial media relations, recently joined the Port of Tacoma as communications manager. In addition to managing media relations, he will manage publications and work with the Port Relations staff to develop communications programs that support the Port's business interests and improve public understanding of Port activities. Prior joining the Port of Tacoma, Wasem spent nine years as an account manager for Issaquah, Washington-based The Siefkes Group, a business-to-business marketing communications firm that specializes in the transportation and trucking industries.
The Seattle Times named Peter Birdsall as production manager of its North Creek production facility in Bothell. Birdsall was previously with the Miami Herald for 22 years, most recently managing its packaging, pre-press, newsprint and maintenance operations.
John Sauer was named district manager for six Seattle retail stores at G.I. Joe's. Sauer was previously a regional merchandising manager for Home Depot. G.I. Joe's also reassigned Lori Bennet and Felice Dominguez to manage two new stores in Kent and Lakewood respectively; Eric Beemer, former manager of G.I. Joe's Hayden Meadows, Ore. store will replace Bennet as manager for the Lynnwood store; and Paul Downs, previously with Gottschalks, will replace Dominiguez as manager at the Issaquah store.
David Perry joined Xyron Semiconductor as vice president of marketing. Perry recently worked with Zayante and Leopard Logic and is the cofounder of S-Mos Systems. Xyron, based in Vancouver markets its patented Zots circuitry which manages system interrupt handling and task management in microprocessors.
Genemax Corp., as part of the restructuring following the reverse takeover of GeneMax Paharmaceuticals, named Dr. Julia Levy as chairman of the board of directors. Levy is joined by Ron Handford, Dr. Wilf Jefferies, James Davidson, Dr. Calvin Stiller, Alan Linday, and Grant Atkins as directors. Handford will serve as president and chief executive officer, Davidson will serve as chief financial officer and secretary, and Jefferies will serve as chief scientist officer. GeneMax, based in Blaine, is a biotechnology company specializing in the discovery and development of immunotherapeutics aimed at the treatment and eradication of cancer, and therapies for infectious diseases, autoimmune disorders and transplant tissue rejection

Lance E. Olsen is a new member of Routh Crabtree Fennell and has been named chief operations officer of its wholly owned trustee company, Northwest Trustee Services. Olsen joined Routh Crabtree in 1996 and specializes in bankruptcy, creditor rights and related litigation.
MGT of America promoted Dr. Edward Humble to senior partner in its Olympia office. MGT is an international consulting firm headquartered in Tallahassee, Fla. Humble has been with the firm for eight years and was named Northwest regional director of the 28-year-old firm two years ago.
Mike Hyde was named sales manager for rigging and drapery products and Ted Ross was named sales manager for lighting products for Portland's Stagecraft Industries. Hyde's recent projects include digitally controlled motorized rigging for the Washington State Convention Center. Hyde will be based in Portland and Ross will be based in Seattle. The company also hired Ed Warner as key account representative for lighting products. Warner was previously quotations manager at Entertainment Technology. The company has been a manufacturer of stage rigging and stage electrical equipment since 1960.
Blue Ribbon Pet Salon has opened in Mukilteo. Tracey J. Bigelow is owner and manager. The facility offers self-serve pet grooming at nine grooming stations at 11811 Mukilteo Speedway.
Pacific Edge Software named Peter M. Callaghan vice president of worldwide sales. Callaghan was previously senior vice president for the industry solutions division at Pivotal Corp. Pacific Edge is a provider of project portfolio management solutions and is based in Bellevue.
The Mavin Foundation will host an open house at its new office in Pioneer Square. The foundation has moved to a new floor in the Pioneer Building at 600 First Avenue. The community is invited to visit on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 4-7 PM. The nonprofit foundation assists multiracial individuals and families with a magazine and projects, including the MatchMaker Bone Marrow Project and the Multiracial Child Resource Book.
