University of Washington Business School

David Burgstahler was named associate dean for masters programs at the University of Washington Business School. Burgstahler, a financial and managerial accounting professor, has taught at the UW Business School since 1981. He replacesGary Sundem, who will return to teaching this fall.

Young & Roehr Group

A. Kim Borrillo has joined Young & Roehr Group as senior account executive and project manager. She will support the planning and execution of marketing initiatives for the agency's clients. Borrillo was most recently an account manager with Communi(K) Inc. Young & Roehr, based in Portland, is a business-to-business agency providing integrated communications services.

Davis Wright Tremaine

Davis Wright Tremaine named Dr. Jane E.R. Potter as of counsel in its Seattle office. Potter's expertise is in the area of biotechnology patent matters. Most recently, she was a principal at Seattle's Seed Intellectual Property Law Group.

Safeco

Safeco named Stephanie Daley-Watson vice president and associate general counsel. Prior to joining Safeco, Daley-Watson served as of counsel with the Perkins Coie law firm in Seattle.

Downtown Seattle Association

Anita Woo is the new public relations specialist for the Downtown Seattle Association. Woo most recently worked as a reporter/writer for NorthWest Cable News and producer for NBC News. She will develop and execute PR campaigns; which includes providing information about downtown developments and activities to DSA members, downtown businesses, property owners, media and general public.

RealNetworks

RealNetworks named Merrill Brown senior vice president. Brown will be responsible for RealOne services for the Americas. Brown previously worked as senior vice president and editor-in-chief at MSNBC.com.

State Trial Lawyers Association

At its annual convention in Vancouver, B.C., the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association elected Bellevue attorney Steve Toole as its new president. Another Bellevue attorney, Pat LePlay, a partner in the firm LePlay and Koehler, was named trial lawyer of the year. Andrea Darvas, who practices in Burien with her husband, David Heller, received the WSTLA's professionalism award.

Western Washington University

Linda Smeins, a professor of art history at Western Washington University, was named interim dean of the school's College of Fine and Performing Arts. Smeins, who served as acting dean during the 1995-96 school year, will serve a two-year term, replacing Bertil van Boer who resigned the post July 1 to pursue international music interests. Smeins joined the WWU faculty in 1981.

Icos

Icos Corp. appointed David Goodkin vice president of development and chief medical officer. Goodkin is a former vice president of clinical research at Amgen. Icos is a Bothell-based medical research and product development firm.

Translation Technologies

Spokane-based Translation Technologies named Robert J. Stevenson as president and CEO. Stevenson succeeds Fred Zucker, co-founder of Translation Technologies, who will assume an advisory role with the company. Stevenson formerly served as president of Geographix in Denver.

Artech

Brad Claypool was appointed CEO of Artech Inc., a Northwest art services provider. Claypool, who is in his second term as president of Artist Trust's board of trustees, was most recently a partner in the Esther Claypool Gallery and will retain his ownership interest in the gallery.
