Fresh Cup Magazine

Portland's Fresh Cup Magazine promoted Chris Ryan to editor. He was formerly associate editor. Ryan joined Fresh Cup in 2005. Fresh Cup Magazine covers specialty coffee and tea.

Pioneer Newspapers

Pioneer Newspapers, a Seattle-based chain that has 20 small- to medium-sized newspapers, hired Mark Cohen as chief operating officer of the family-owned media company. Cohen has 25 years of newspaper experience and was vice president of advertising for Gatehouse Media in New England. He replaces Mike Gugliotto, who became president and CEO of Pioneer Newspapers in January.

Total HealthCare Management

Seattle-based SeaBright Insurance Holdings hired Jeffrey Miller as chief operating officer of its subsidiary Total HealthCare Management. Miller has 30 years of experience. He replaces Marc Miller, SeaBright's senior vice president and chief medical officer, who will return to a single focus of managing SeaBright's medical expenditures. They are not related.

Humanities Washington

Humanities Washington hired Julie Ziegler as its new executive director. Ziegler has worked at Safeco Insurance and the Bank of America Foundation. She began serving as interim executive director in January and succeeds former executive director Ted Lord who left to return to teaching and philanthropic consulting. The statewide organization is dedicated to interdisciplinary cultural education programs.

K&L Gates

K&L Gates has established an international Capital Markets Reform Group to expand services to clients as new capital markets regulatory reform measures are introduced. It is led by Daniel F. C. Crowley, a partner in the firm's Washington, D.C., public policy and law practice.

Biotechnology & Biomedical Association

The Washington Biotechnology & Biomedical Association hired Stacie Byars as director, marketing and membership. Byars has 20 years of experience and had previously established SDByars Communications.

Child Care Resources

Jeannie Simpson, an associate in Foster Pepper's Real Estate Practice Group, has been elected to the board of directors for Child Care Resources. Child Care Resources promotes school readiness, a stable community and equity for children by building a quality child care system.

Association for Women in Communications

The Washington State University chapter of the Association for Women in Communications has been named the AWC Outstanding Chapter in the Nation for 2009 for substantially increasing its activities and membership. It was selected from more than 30 student chapters.

National Association of Attorneys General

The National Association of Attorneys General elected Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna as vice president. McKenna will serve in the role through next summer, when he will become president-elect of the organization. He'll become president in 2011. McKenna has served in several NAAG leadership positions since assuming office in 2005.

Lagotek

Lagotek Corp. of Bellevue, a developer of residential and commercial building automation systems, has formed an agreement with Advanced Control Technologies, a developer of residential and commercial control products. Lagotek will integrate ACT's StandAlone and controlLED LED tubes into its new Building Intelligence System, designed to manage commercial lighting, HVAC and motorized window coverings for maximum energy efficiency.
