Washington State University

Gov. Chris Gregoire appointed Ron Sims and attorney Ryan Durkan to the Washington State University Board of Regents, the university's governing body. Sims served as deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development from 2009 to 2011, and was previously King County Executive. Durkan works with HCMP Law Offices and specializes in real estate, land use and environmental law.

Oregon Seed Trade Association

Greg Miller, of Pac/West Communications, is executive director for the Oregon Seed Trade Association. OSTA is a statewide agricultural trade association representing agricultural seed growers and seed dealers in Oregon.

Garvey Schubert Barer

The Western Returned Scholars Association honored Stan Barer with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Barer is a member of Garvey Schubert Barer's advisory committee and of counsel, and is chairman emeritus of Saltchuk Resources. He negotiated the resumption of shipping service between the People's Republic of China and the U.S. in 1979. Founded in 1913, the Western Returned Scholars Association is a Chinese government-affiliated entity consisting of more than 40,000 Chinese scholars and researchers who have studied abroad.

Nintendo of America

Nintendo of America said Richard Flamm will retire in the spring after 19 years, including more than 12 years as general counsel. Flamm is senior vice president and initially was hired to lead Nintendo's litigation team. He was promoted to general counsel in 1999.

Endeka Group

Endeka Group, a wireless Internet services provider based in Bainbridge Island, hired Hans Petersen as chief executive officer. Tim Rout will continue as president and founder. Petersen is a founding member of the board of directors. He was recently CEO, founder and director of Traversa.

KLCK-FM Click 98.9

Seattle's KLCK-FM Click 98.9 hired Maynard, program director at Movin 92.5, as acting program director. He will retain his current duties at Movin and take on all programming aspects at Click. Both are owned and operated by Sandusky Radio.

Emerald BioStructures

Emerald BioStructures of Bainbridge Island hired Johan Pontin as chairman and chief executive officer. He succeeds Lance Stewart, Emerald's co-founder, who will now serve as chair of the advisory board. Pontin has been executive chairman since November of 2009.

Parallels

Parallels, a Renton-based firm that offers cloud services enablement and desktop virtualization software, hired Michael Toutonghi as chief technology officer, David Arkley as chief financial officer, and Jesper Frederiksen as vice president and general manager of Europe and North Africa. Toutonghi is the inventor or co-inventor of 19 issued patents and a member of a group of 22 technical fellows at Microsoft. Arkley was CFO of Itron North America. Frederiksen was with Symantec.

Plum Creek Timber

Plum Creek Timber Co. hired Russell Hagen as senior vice president, business development. Hagen joined Plum Creek in 1993 as manager of internal audit and recently held vice-president level positions in real estate development and business development.
