State Department of Revenue

The State Department of Revenue's deputy director Vikki Smith won a leadership award from the Washington D.C.-based Federation of Tax Administrators. Smith started at the Department of Revenue in 1970 as a clerk. The award recognizes people who improve and contribute to their agencies.

Pierce County

The Pierce County Department of Emergency Management has appointed fire inspector Warner Webb to fire marshal for the Pierce County Fire Prevention Bureau. Webb was fire marshal for Whatcom County for 15 years.

Seattle Public Schools

The deputy superintendent of Seattle Public Schools Noel Treat said he is leaving the post to be deputy city manager of Mercer Island. Treat said his last day with the district will be May 21.

The Department of Development and Environmental Services awarded John Starbard, director, as public employee of the year by the Municipal League of King County. Starbard instituted reforms to improve efficiency, reduce fees, and shortened permit processing.

NanoString

Seattle-based NanoString Technologies hired Joseph Beechem as senior vice president of research and development. Beechem worked as vice president of Life Technologies. NanoString is a researcher and developer of molecular diagnostics.

Top Pot Doughnuts

Seattle-based Top Pot Doughnuts will open a new cafe near Third and Columbia this summer. Top Pot Doughnuts was founded in 2002 and has eight cafes in the Puget Sound region.
