Nick Hawley joined Visit Seattle as director of marketing, and will work with Publicis to promote Seattle. Hawley was parking program manager at Downtown Seattle Association and also worked for Team Soapbox, a Seattle communications firm.

McKinley Irvin said Laura Sell joined the family law firm as a new partner in Seattle. Sell was with Stokes Lawrence in Seattle. Sell also regularly serves as a mediator and settlement conference master in family law cases.

Lighthouse eDiscovery

Lighthouse eDiscovery, which provides ediscovery and consulting services, named Paul Johnson director of business development in the Northwest. He was president of global sales at Heads Up Puzzles and before that was vice president of sales operations at Key Bank.

University of Washington

SEATTLE (AP) — President Obama is giving the National Medal of Science to a University of Washington scientist credited with connecting a gene mutation with breast cancer.

Mary-Claire King was honored at a White House ceremony on Thursday for her research on evolution and the genetics of human disease. The National Medal of Science is the nation's highest recognition for scientific achievement. King has spent more than 40 years as a researcher and teacher.

Puget Sound Bank

Bellevue-based Puget Sound Bank hired Kimberly Carhee as vice president, loan operations manager to replace Bruce Nalder, who is retiring after 11 years managing the loan service team. Nalder was one of the first employees of Puget Sound Bank. Carhee has spent her career in loan operations and community banking.

Pierce County Superior Court

Judge Brian Tollefson, Pierce County Superior Court's most senior judge will retire May 31. Tollefson was elected to Superior Court in 1988 and has been active in the Washington State Superior Court Judges Association.

First Sound Bank

First Sound Bank said Jon C. Shelton has been promoted from executive vice president and chief credit officer to president and chief operating officer. Shelton has over 46 years in community banking and worked at Washington Trust Bank in Spokane as chief lending officer, and manager of the Commercial Banking Division before going to Frontier Bank in Everett where he managed the Western Region.

Russell Investments

Russell Investments has formed a new team within its investment division: Global Client Strategy & Research, which is charged with integrating asset allocation expertise across regions and businesses. Kevin Turner, a 21-year veteran of Russell Investments, will lead the new team.
