Clearwater Paper

Michael J. Murphy is the new CFO and senior vice president at Spokane-based Clearwater Paper. Murphy was CFO at NxEdge and has over 25 years of paper industry and finance experience. Prior to NxEdge, he held senior finance, risk management and strategy positions with KapStone Paper & Packaging and with Boise Inc. He spent over 17 years in investment banking with J.P. Morgan Securities and John Nuveen & Co. He succeeds Robert G. Hrivnak, who is leaving the company. Clearwater supplies private-label tissue to major retailers and wholesale distributors, and produces bleached paperboard.

Rockefeller Capital Management

New York City-based financial advisory firm Rockefeller Capital Management appointed Brian Riley as head of its San Francisco office and managing director of its Pacific Northwest Division for Rockefeller Private Wealth Management. Riley was an executive vice president on the Private Wealth Management team at First Republic Bank in San Francisco. He began his career at Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor, and later held a variety of leadership positions including regional managing director for the Private Banking and Investment Group.

State of Washington

The state Department of Commerce said $5 million in emergency grants are available to the 29 federally recognized tribes in the state to bolster their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each tribal government will receive $100,000, with the remaining $2.1 million distributed based on a formula under development between Commerce and tribal leaders. The grants could fund food distribution, isolation housing, medical equipment and services for vulnerable members.

SoftNAS

Medina-based cloud storage company SoftNAS changed its name to Buurst and secured $5 million in additional funding. The new name comes with a change in the company's strategic vision and business model, which rejects the traditional way of charging customers for data they store on the cloud and favors performance.

PotlatchDeltic

Spokane-based PotlatchDeltic on Monday will temporarily halt production at its St. Maries, Idaho, plywood plant as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on plywood markets. The company will stop production for two weeks, but could extend the closure depending on market conditions. It said all other businesses — including lumber mills in Idaho, Michigan, Minnesota and Arkansas — continue to operate, but could be affected by market conditions. PotlatchDeltic is a REIT that owns timberlands in several states.

Satech

Chehalis-based Satech is providing free anti-fatigue mats to health care workers in western Washington fighting on the front lines against the coronavirus. Balnave

Business intelligence platform developer Pyramid Analytics appointed Bill Balnave as director of solutions engineering and customer success. Balnave has over 20 years of experience in the enterprise software space. Prior to joining Pyramid, he held various roles in sales, customer success and product management at Apptio in Bellevue. Pyramid is based in Amsterdam and its U.S. headquarters is in Seattle. Pyramid enables large companies to analyze data in a modular, easy and fast way.

Mod Pizza

Josh Guenser is the new CFO of Seattle-based Mod Pizza. Guenser was senior vice president of finance for the Americas at Starbucks. During his 10-plus years with Starbucks, he also held vice president and director-level roles in finance focused on retail operations, global supply chain and reporting. Prior to that, Guenser spent over seven years at KPMG.

Smarsh

Susan Theder is the newest board member of Portland-based Smarsh. Theder is executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Advisor Group, a network of independent wealth management firms. She has over 20 years of senior leadership experience, including a six-year stint as CMO of Cetera Financial Group. Smarsh archives electronic communications for regulated organizations, including banks and government agencies.

Navex Global

Compliance Week magazine honored Navex Global's Carrie Penman with its inaugural Lifetime Achievement in Compliance Award. Penman is chief risk and compliance officer at Navex, a risk and compliance software and services company based in Lake Oswego, Oregon. The award recognizes longtime practitioners that have upheld the core principles of ethics and leadership throughout their careers.

Seattle-based startup Glowforge, a maker of 3D laser printers that cut and etch various materials, is mobilizing tens of thousands of its customers across the country to make 1 million free ear savers for health care and other essential workers. Ear savers are small, easy-to-print adapters that improve the fit of surgical and N95 masks, making them more comfortable for long-term wear.
