Managed care organization PacifiCare of Washington, a subsidiary of PacifiCare Health Systems Inc., has promoted Lori Mitchell, previously the company's director of finance, to vice president and chief financial officer for its Northwest region. She will oversee financial management functions, strategic planning and information services for PacifiCare in Washington and Oregon. Prior to joining PacifiCare, Mitchell served as chief financial officer at Stevens Memorial Hospital in Edmonds for 15 years.
Jeffrey L. Prevette has been named director of jewelry design and repair for Stewarts Jewelers of Kent. Prevette has more than 23 years of experience in designing, crafting and repairing jewelry. Before joining Stewarts three years ago, he operated Metal Jems Jewelry on the Seattle waterfront and was a designer for Garrison Studios.
YAKIMA (AP) -- Yakima Herald-Republic Publisher James Barnhill has announced that he will retire next April 30. Charles Cochrane, publisher of the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin and a vice president of The Seattle Times Co., will take over as publisher of the 111-year-old newspaper. Barnhill, 64, served as the Herald-Republic's publisher for 16 years. He began his career in the circulation department of the Great Bend (Kan.) Tribune in 1950. He later managed two newspapers in Contra Costa County, Calif., and joined Harte-Hanks Communications in 1974 as publisher of the Ypsilanti (Mich.) Press, spending six years there before accepting the publisher's job in Yakima. Cochrane, 49, has been publisher in Walla Walla for 16 years, and earlier worked for Horvitz Newspapers, which published four newspapers in Ohio and one in New York. He is due to arrive in Yakima on April 1 for a month-long transition. The Seattle Times Co. owns both the Walla Walla and Yakima newspapers.
WOODINVILLE (PRN) -- Prism Group Inc., a Woodinville software manufacturing and fulfillment company, announced Friday that it has completed a restructuring of its balance sheet and obtained $3.5 million of short-term financing from CAPCO Financial. The company has also met all requirements necessary for continued listing on the Nasdaq SmallCap Market(SM). Prism restructured $4.7 million of short-term debt by converting it into equity of the company. Of that amount, $2.1 million was exchanged for 4.2 million shares of the company's common stock and the remaining $2.6 million was exchanged for 25,735 shares of the company's new Series A Convertible Preferred Stock, which entitles the holders to a 4 percent cumulative dividend. Among those taking part in the debt restructuring were: Renaissance Capital Partners II Ltd., which provided acquisition capital to the company in 1992; Intermag Inc., a major supplier to the company and its subsidiaries; and three existing Prism shareholders.

Dennis Richard has been selected as director of communications and government affairs for the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce. His responsibilities will include managing Chamber publications, marketing communications, legislative issue management and government relations. Richards has 16 years of experience in communications and marketing, most recently serving as consultant to Skagit County-area businesses involved in healthcare, lodging, food service, publishing, real estate, construction and retail sales. He has also been involved with Chambers of Commerce in both Skagit County and Southern California. Before moving to Skagit County, Richards was director of corporate relations for multi-site health corporation Inter-Community Health Services in Covina, Calif., where he worked for 12 years. He has also worked as a trade show director.
Salt Lake City, Utah-based Morris Travel, a regional travel company and the largest rerpresentative agency for the American Express Travel Related Services Network (TRS), has purchased Diamond Travel, a local agency with six offices in the Seattle area. This is the second acquisiton for Morris into the Pacific Northwest in less than a year. Last August, the company purchased Travel Link with three offices in the Portland area. Diamond will continue to operate under its current name. Diamond Travel is currently servicing about $15 million in travel sales out of its six locations, while Morris services in excess of $135 million out of 32 offices and 12 on-site corporate travel offices in Idaho, Oregon, Utah and now Washington.

Amy S. Faherty has been named director of pediatric speech/language services for Puget Sound Therapy Services. A Speech/Language Pathologist specializing in pediatric assessment and treatment, she will work from PSTS' new Kent Clinic. Faherty comes to PSTS with more than nine years of experience at Children's Hospital and Medical Center. She has presented numerous workshops and courses nationally and throughout the Puget Sound region. Her experience also includes work as a staff therapist for Virginia Mason Hospital and Harborview Medical Center.
Totem Ocean Trailer Express Inc., Seattle, has named Curt Stoner as its new Alaska Sales Manger. Stoner has been with American President Lines for the past 10 years, most recently as regional sales manager of an 11-member Alaska/Pacific Northwest sales team.
The Rotary Club of Seattle has elected David C. Cortelyou as president, replacing Bruce A. Walker. Cortelyou has been with Seattle real estate development and management firm UNICO Properties for over 30 years, staring his career in 1936 in the leasing department. Since 1992, he has served as president and chief executive officer. Cortelyou is past president of the Building Owners & Managers Association of Seattle and King County, the Downtown Seattle Association and Washington Athletic Club, and board member of the UW Alumni Association.
