First Interstate Bank, Northwest Region, has promoted Nicole Smith to vice president of its Trust & Private Client Services Department in Portland. Her duties include overseeing the development of client surveys, presentations, education programs for 401(k) enrollment and communication materials, including client newsletters. Smith joined First Interstate in February. Prior to that, she was a senior account manager for Bowler & Associates, a marketing and public relations agency in Portland. During her 12 years of public relations, marketing and communications experience, Smith has also worked for PR firms in Pasadena and Tustin, Calif. She is currently a member of the Portland chapter of the American Marketing Association.
Richard Veit has been hired as director of technology services for Veit Consulting Associates, a Seattle management consulting firm. Veit has more than 15 years of experience in a variety of hardware and software environments, with a focus in wide and local area networking communications and protocols. Previously, he has worked for the Legent Corp., FlexLink, US West Network Systems and Boeing Computer Services.
Myra Van Vector has been named as the new director of the Library Media Center at Bellevue Community College. A librarian for over 20 years, Van Vactor has had responsibility for personnel administration, collection development and fiscal management at numerous university, federal government and city newspaper libraries. She has extensive experience in computer technology and database management, gained from her work at the National Computer Center in Philippines, where she established a library to meet the research, technical and instructional needs of 800 system analysts, programmers and information specialists.
Wilmer Communications Group, a Seattle-based marketing communications firm, has added Donna Martin as account services manager. She formerly served as sales/seminar coordinator and administrative assistant to the vice president of sales and marketing from Princess Tours, a division of Princess Cruises.

Leslie Kuplan has been named auto travel manager for AAA Washington's Seattle office. Kuplan previously worked as assistant district manager at Automobile Club of Southern California.
Diana Valentine of Showplace Kitchen and Baths, in Redmond, has been selected to be on the panel of judges for the national Wilsonart/Maytag CKD Excellence in Kitchen Design Competition. The winning design will be published in Better Homes and Gardens Kitchen and Bath Ideas Magazine.
Sunmakers Travel Group, a Seattle-based national wholesale tour operator, has promoted Bill Anderson to senior vice president of marketing. A 23-year veteran of the travel industry, Anderson has owned hotels in Australia and was the previous owner of Destinations Pacific, a tour operator to the South Pacific and now a division of the Sunmakers Travel Group. Anderson is responsible for marketing efforts for Sunmakers and its subsidiaries: Hawaii Leisure, Kailani Hawaii Tours, Destinations Pacific, Cruise Alaska Tours and Tahiti Nui Island Dreams.
Jeremy Curnock Cook has been elected to a new seat on the board of directors of Targeted Genetics Corp., a Seattle developer of gene therapy products for the treatment of certain acquired and inherited diseases, bringing board membership to five. Curnock Cook, 45, is a director of London-based Rothschild Asset Management Limited and of International Biotechnology Trust. He also serves on the board of Cantab Pharmaceuticals plc, Therexsys Ltd., Vanguard Medica Ltd., Cangene Corp., Syncor Holdings Ltd., International Biotech Ltd. and Biocompatibles International plc, of which he is chairman.
