Tacoma-based Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) has promoted two staff members to the director level and added two directors to fill vacancies. Mike Anderson, formerly an instructor of the tool and equipment rental and repair program, is director of plant services. He is president of the Clover Park Vocational Association. Prior to joining the CPTC, Anderson was owner and operator of an equipment rental company in Evanston, Wyo. Jim Crabbe is a director of instruction responsible for the CPTC automotive and aviation training programs. He recently retired from the U.S. Army as an artillery officer specializing in training development and operations. Bob Holloway, formerly human relations manager for the Private Industry Council, is the new director of continuing education. Kathy Kieffer, previously an instructor in the management and employee development department, has been named director of related instruction, adult basic education and outcomes assessment.
Best Consulting, a information systems consulting firm headquartered in Seattle, was listed number 10 among Washington's 1995 Software Leaders, a ranking of the state's software and computer-related companies compiled by Washington CEO magazine. The company was in the 17th spot last year. Other companies included in the top 10 on Washington CEO fourth annual high-tech industry roundup, published in the November issue, included (from ninth place to number one): Data I/O Corp., Sierra On-Line, Walker Richer & Quinn Inc., Wall Data Inc., Itron Inc., Allied Telesyn International, Adobe Systems Inc., Attachmate Corporation and Microsoft in the lead. The rankings are based on the number of employees a company has and on revenues. Best Consulting also won an Emerging Business Award in 1995 from the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, and was recognized as one of the fastest growing firm in Northern California, receiving a "Fast-Tract 25" honor for its growth in the Sacramento area. With the recent acquisition of Prodata, the five-year-old company employs more than 750 people and anticipates revenues of nearly $60 million in 1995. Best has two remote development centers and branches in Boise, Olympia, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Sacramento and San Francisco, and is opening a new office in Minneapolis.
Longtime Elgin Syferd advertising and public relations executive Bob Frause has joined Kindred Nolan & Callahan Advertising as the Seattle agency's fourth partner. The new firm will be named Kindred Nolan Callahan Frause. Primary areas of expertise include financial services, electronic and digital technologies, environmental, grocery and restaurant services, consumer goods, travel and tourism, heath care, and maritime. Frause, 50, had been with Elgin Syferd for nearly 10 years. Previously, he was a partner and vice president of marketing for Commercial Publishing. He also worked for the Economic Development Council of Puget Sound, where he was deputy and executive director from 1981 to 1984); Seattle University (director of communications and development from 1978 to 1981); and Hill and Knowlton Public Relations (director of account services, 1971 to 1978).
Banana Pages On-line, an Internet version of the fun neighborhood telephone directories distributed in the Seattle and Portland markets, is offering free classified ads. The service allows readers from anywhere in the world to type in their own ad for posting on the Internet. The entire yellow pages database for Metropolitan Seattle and Portland are available on-line to be searched and selected. The web-site address (URL) is http://www.ebp.com. Ronald W. Benoit and Mary L. Swan have been named partners in the Seattle office of Moss Adams LLP, a regional accounting firm with 16 offices on the West Coast. Also, Dennis Locke has been named a principal with the management advisory services division of the company, which specializes in the valuation of businesses, securities and intangible assets. Benoit is a tax specialist with 12 years of experience. He heads the wholesale distribution niche in the Seattle office. Swan has worked with Moss Adams for 10 years and is responsible for the not-for-profit niche group in Seattle. Locke, a chartered financial analyst, has been active in business valuation, capital planning and analysis since 1981.
OLYMPIA (AP) -- State government's chief economist and the president of the Federal Home Loan Bank in Seattle were appointed to the state Higher Education Coordinating Board by Gov. Mike Lowry. Chang Mook Sohn, director of the Economic and Revenue Forecast Council, will fill a vacancy left by the resignation of David Tang. Banker James Faulstich succeeds Ann Daley, the deputy state treasurer who left the board to become a University of Washington regent. Sohn's revenue forecasts are the basis for budget and tax decisions by the governor and Legislature. He has worked closely with the council chairman, retiring Senate Majority Leader Marc Gaspard, who recently was chosen as HEC Board executive director. Before coming to Washington a decade ago, Sohn was am economist for Oregon, Illinois and New York. He lives in Olympia. Faulstich, former economic development director and state insurance commissioner for Oregon, also has practiced law and held a top post with the National Association of Independent Insurers. Lowry also reappointed former Spokane Mayor Vicki McNeill to the board, which oversees the offerings of the state's four-year public colleges and develops plans for meeting the higher education needs of state residents.
Redmond-based Physio-Control Corp. has announced an agreement with Japan's NEC Corp. and its medical equipment division to supply and service Physio-Control defibrillation products in Japan through its affiliate, NEC-Sanei. Physio-Control will be NEC's exclusive supplier of defibrillation products for distribution to hospitals and ambulances in Japan.
Gilbert FitzGerald has joined the StatSci division of Mathsoft as product manager. He is responsible for overseeing the development of S-Plus, an object-oriented data analysis software program. FitzGerald brings nearly 10 years of experience in mathematics, applied statistics, software development and marketing to the position. Previously, he has spent five years as senior statistician at statistical software company BMDP Europe, where his duties ranged from technical support and training to statistical consulting and program implementation. Prior to working at BMDP, he taught mathematics and structural programming languages at a third-level institution in the Republic of Ireland. In addition to his teaching duties, he was also responsible for establishing degree programs and staff training.
Karen W. Morse, president of Bellingham-based Western Washington University, has begun serving a one-year term as chair of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities committee on policies and purposes. The committee serves 370 public colleges and universities and more than 30 higher education systems in the United States. All 30 members are chief executive officers of their institutions or systems. In July, Morse became chair of the Council of Presidents, which is comprised of the presidents of Washington's six four-year colleges and universities. She has been president of Western Washington University since 1993.
First Interstate Bank has donated $1,500 to the Hispanic Business College Fund to help an Hispanic student attend an institution of higher education and become a business leader. The mission of the fund is to develop a new generation of educated business leaders in America through scholarships. Fund supporters say there is a shortage of educated professionals in the areas of management, finance, information systems, marketing and sales. The Washington State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Yakima Chamber of Commerce, SEAMAR, El Centro de la Raza, and Image of Seattle will assist in identifying eligible students. The application deadline is January 31, 1996.
Sandra C. Strombeck has joined the staff of Francis & Co., a certified public accounting and management consulting firm based in Seattle. Strombeck recently graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Business Administration and a concentration in accounting. Previously, she worked as an accounting assistant for TMP Worldwide in Seattle.
Northwest Cable Advertising has hired David Gregory as a retail sales representative in its Tacoma office. Before joining Northwest Cable Advertising, Gregory was a regional sales manager for the Ramsey Co., Seattle. He covered eight Western states and three Canadian provinces.
