Space Systems/Loral

Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) has signed an agreement with Sea Launch Co. for five launches on the Sea Launch system launch vehicle in Long Beach, Calif., starting in the second half of 1998 and running through the year 2001. The agreement gives Space Systems/Loral assured access to launch at a time when demand to put commercial satellites on orbit exceeds supply and will allow SS/L to meet its customer's requirements for activating satellite communications service on specific dates. Sea Launch is an international partnership, jointly owned by Boeing Commercial Space Co., which has overall project management responsibilities; Kvaerner a.s. (Norway), which is responsible for maritime resources; KB Yuzhnoye and PO Yuzmash (Ukraine), which manufacture the two-stage Zonit rocket upon which the Sea Launch rocket is based; and RSC-Energia (Russia), which builds the upper stage of the Sea Launch rocket and other launch support systems. Sea Launch is developing its U.S. home port in Long Beach, Calif.

Norton Lilly International

Norton Lilly International Inc. has been chosen by Sinotrans, China's predominant forwarding and logistics company, as general agent for its new Transpacific container service between Shanghai and the U.S. West Coast. The container service will operate weekly, initially calling at Long Beach and Oakland, Calif. HLX, an intermodal and logistics joint venture between the HUB Group of Lombard, Ill., and Norton Lilly, will be the U.S. intermodal provider for this new service.

First Mutual Bank

Pam Tallman has been named income property loan officer and manager of First Mutual Bank's new Oregon loan office. Her responsibilities will include producing commercial real estate loans on a range of property types, including apartments, mobile home parks, office, retail, self-storage and warehouse. Headquartered in Bellevue, First Mutual is a state-chartered, FDIC-insured savings bank which provides retail and wholesale residential mortgages as well as commercial and income property loans.

Ad 2 Seattle

Ad 2 Seattle invites new members to join this year's Public Service Campaign. Participant's select a client, create the advertising campaign and coordinate production and airing of media. The campaign is designed to benefit a local non-profit organization. Ad 2 is an organization of young professionals in advertising under the age of 32, who pool their creative talents to benefit a local non-profit organization. Tully's Coffee

Tully's Coffee will open its 17th store this summer, located in the Columbia Center. The store will be located on the second retail level of the tower and will be open from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m..

Todo Inc.

Todo Inc. recently opened three of its Todo Wraps restaurants on the eastside and has plans to add three more in the next 90 days. Currently, Todo Inc. has 14 restaurants in the Seattle area and has plans to expand out of state in 1996, increasing the total restaurant count to 25 by the end of the year.

Telect Control Products of Liberty Lake, Wash., has been awarded the security control system contract to refurbish the command center at the Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia. The park is the home of the Declaration of Independence, the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and 48 other historic buildings. Telect designs and manufactures voice, fiber, power, professional audio/video, and electronic monitoring and control equipment, and custom cable assemblies for industries worldwide.

PhotoDisc, Inc.

PhotoDisc, Inc., a provider of royalty-free digital stock photography based in Seattle, has announced an infusion of $7 million in equity funding from TA Associates and Geocapital Partners to expand its digital library, increase worldwide market penetration and broaden its presence on the World Wide Web. PhotoDisc wants to capitalize on the rapid growth of the digital image marketplace. The company's revenue has doubled annually since it was incorporated in 1992 and it expects to reach $25 million in sales this year.

International Footprint Association

Patrick Murphy, chief of security at the Kingdome, was elected grand president of the International Footprint Association during its recent convention in Los Angeles. Murphy will oversee the activities of close to 10,000 members in 70 chapters. The organization is comprised of law enforcement officers and business professionals who are dedicated to fostering understanding, cooperation and mutual respect between law enforcement agencies, businesses and the community they both serve.

Food Frenzy starts today

The 7th annual Food Frenzy kicks off today, beginning a two-week food and fund drive sponsored by law and accounting firms in both Seattle and Bellevue. The annual event collects donations to support the work of Food Lifeline, a not-for-profit agency supplying 217 neighborhood food banks and meal programs in western Washington. Food Frenzy pits law and accounting firms against each other as they compete to collect food items and monetary donations. The winner is the firm that collects the most donations per employee. Skagit County Economic Development

The Economic Development Association of Skagit County (EDASC) is accepting reservations for its Ninth Annual WineFest & FoodFair to be held at Eaglemont Golf Club at 5:00 pm on Friday, July 26. The golf tournament, which precedes the party, is sold out. Moss Adams, certified public accountants, and First American Title Company are co-sponsoring the event. Proceeds will help create/retain jobs in Skagit County. The public is invited to attend the WineFest & FoodFair. Tickets are $25 for EDASC members and $35 for non-members.
