Westin

Westin announced the opening of The Westin Surabaya, Westin's first hotel in Indonesia. The hotel currently has 125 rooms available, with more being added to its inventory daily. A total of 418 rooms will be completed for the grand opening in early October.

Cinnabon

Cinnabon World Famous Cinnamon Rolls has named Al Hodges vice president for special concepts. He will be in charge of Cinnabon's rapidly growing supermarket operations and other special venues. Hodges comes to Cinnabon from Target Stores where he was the director of food operations for 670 locations.

King County Bar Association

Scott A. Smith, a member of Short Cressman & Burgess P.L.L.C, has been elected president of the King County Bar Association for 1996-97. The bar association's top priority this year will be to recruit more lawyers to provide free legal services to low-income clients. Smith, with an undergraduate degree from Stanford and a law degree from Berkeley's Boalt Hall, has been providing community legal services since he was in law school.

The College Fund/UNCF

The College Fund/UNCF (formerly known as The United Negro College Fund) will host its 13th annual "Walk-A-Mile to Save-A-Mind" fundraising event on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Seward Park in Seattle. More than 1,000 walkers from corporations, civic organizations, churches and schools will participate in this year's event, which will raise an estimated $100,000. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 9:30. For more information, contact The College Fund at 292-8859.

1996 Media & Merchandise Auction

It has been five years since the last Media Auction in Seattle. Ad 2 Seattle, an affiliate of the American Advertising Federation and the Seattle Advertising Federation, and Medina Children's Services will receive the benefits from the 1996 Media & Merchandise Auction. Ad 2 is a non-profit organization providing leadership opportunities for advertising professionals. Medina Children's Services, located in Seattle's Central District, was founded in 1921 and is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. A public service meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m. at the Bank of California Building's conference room, 900 Fourth Ave., Fifth floor, Seattle. Praegitzer Industries

Praegitzer Industries, Inc. a printed circuit board design and fabrication service provider, announced its direct sales force has nearly doubled in the past six months due to recent growth. The company also announced two executive appointments: Robert Van Heyningen to the post of corporate vice president of international business development, and Francis Ip as director of sales, Asian operations. Locally, Praegitzer added Rob Newton as a Northwest regional account manager who is responsible for sales in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Newton is based out of Beaverton, Ore. Dave Nicholson is a Northwest regional account manager, responsible for sales in Washington and Western Canada. Nicholson is based out of Redmond.

U.S. Bancorp

In a company-wide effort to recruit more minority vendors, U.S. Bancorp has created a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) Program "Information Guide," introducing minority vendors to appropriate buyers throughout U.S. Bancorp. Nikon Instrument Group

Gregg M. Boorman of Everett has been named construction sales coordinator West Coast for the surveying department of Nikon Inc. In the newly created position, Boorman will be responsible for sales of automatic levels, laser levels, digital theodolites and total stations to large construction companies and construction product dealers west of the Mississippi. Boorman, who has 14 years of experience in the field, will report to Robert Bailey, national sales manager. He will be based in Seattle.

Sandusky Radio

Sandusky Radio has signed a contract to purchase "Warm 106.9" KRWM-FM for $29.25 million from Brown Broadcasting. This is Sandusky's second recent major radio investment in Seattle. The company purchased KWJZ-FM (98.9) and KEZX-AM (1150) in May 1996 for $26 million from Park Communications.

Alaska Highway Cruises

Alaska Highway Cruises has hired Joseph A. Giannelli as director of sales. A 25-year veteran of the tour and cruise industry, Giannelli has held sales and marketing management positions with Princess Cruises, Sunmakers Travel Group, and most recently, Regency Cruises as regional sales director.

Mutual Travel

According to "Travel Weekly," Mutual Travel now ranks 25th among U.S.-based travel agencies based on 1995 sales. Mutual Travel, which is headquartered in Seattle, has 33 offices in Washington state, 20 of which are on-site within the offices of large corporate client companies. Recent new corporate clients for Mutual Travel include Genie Industries, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Primus, Wizards of the Coast and Western Wireless.
