Managed Care Washington (MCW) has named Pamela Hara as vice president of operations. Hara will be responsible for defining organizational quality care and service standards and implementation throughout MCW's network of more than 1,500 clinicians. Also joining MCW are Joi Murotani as director of provider relations and Ari Ziv as special projects coordinator. Murotani will be responsible for designing and implementing quality management tools, customer satisfaction enhancement strategies and provider development strategies. Ziv will work in a variety of areas relating to research, contract implementation and administration. Managed Care Washington is a statewide managed behavioral health company in Washington.
Darrell Couts has joined Magna Design Inc. as vice president of sales and marketing. He will oversee all of the company's sales activity and will work closely with the company's distribution network, architecture and design firms and corporate accounts. Located in Lynnwood, Magna Design Inc. designs and manufactures office furniture systems.
The U.S. Forest Service's Rural Community Assistance Program has awarded a $45,000 grant to the Bellingham/Whatcom County Convention & Visitors Bureau to help develop a marketing campaign to increase visitor spending in rural areas and on water-related activities. The grant was made available through the Northwest Economic Adjustment Initiative as part of the Northwest Forest Plan.
Charles Whiteside is the new vice president for human resources and employee relations at Shoreline Community College. Previously, Whiteside was the director of human resources and employee relations at Antelope Valley Community College in Lancaster, Calif.
Noah's New York Bagels has opened a new store in Factoria, serving the Factoria/Newport Hills area. The store is located at 3720-D 128th Ave SE. Noah's New York Bagels owns and operates 56 stores throughout northern and southern California and Oregon, and eight stores in Western Washington.
Bhajira Townsend, CLU, ChFC has been elected president of the Seattle Association of Life Underwriters for a one-year term. Townsend is president of the company Townsend Resources Group, Inc., and specializes as a wealth legacy coach. Other officers elected by the Seattle Association are: Raymond DeJong, president-elect, DeJong Insurance Group; Mary Pat Bauman, secretary; Nora Dacus, treasurer, Physicians Insurance Company; Steve Hogg, national committeeman; and Barbara Cox, regional vice president, Allstate Insurance Company.

Cable Plus has appointed Matthew Schiltz as president and chief operating officer, and Robert McCambridge as chief financial officer. Schiltz formerly served as vice president of operations at Cable Plus. McCambridge was formerly with Control Data Corp. where he held the position of treasurer and vice president of corporate development. Cable Plus, a private company backed by Craig O. McCaw, provides telecommunication systems in 13 states, and is widely regarded as the premier private cable and telephone operator for multi-unit residential communities.
Sam Huffman has joined The Versatile Company as a senior instructor. Huffman will lead the company's consulting projects. The Versatile Company is a Seattle-based firm that provides training and consulting in project management. The company has introduced project management to a variety of firms including Boeing and The Rafn Company.
Technical Communications Consultants, Inc. (TCCI), has been purchased by Peggy Jacobson, Ph. D., who will become the firm's chief executive. TCCI is a documentation and presentation graphics company based in Seattle. The company was founded in 1978 by Colleen Brady and provides workflow analysis, policy and procedures manuals, software documentation, regulatory compliance documentation, training, and business presentation strategies, graphics and illustrations to its international client base.
The Hector Russell Company of Inverness, Scotland, has purchased The Scottish Shopper Corporation located in Seattle. Hector Russell is known for its kilts. The company also specialized in tartans, tweeds, china, crystal souvenirs and knitwear. The Scottish Shopper Corporation specializes in tartans, pipes, kilts, books, Scottish music, jewelry and accessories. Together, the companies' bulk purchasing capabilities and distribution networks will allow both shorter lead times for goods being imported from Scotland and better value for the money. Jack Ironside, proprietor of The Scottish Shopper, will remain as president of the combined corporation sharing responsibilities with the Hector Russell staff from Scotland.
Sound Telecom, an Issaquah-based company, has opened a national call center in Spokane covering the Eastern Washington region. The purpose of the center is to serve its business-to-business customers with a national in-bound call center, providing a range of integrated telephone answering services. Sound Telecom will continue to expand its Western Washington operation center by adding new services, advanced equipment and additional employees.
