Bratrud Middleton Insurance Brokers has been chosen to participate in the Independent Insurance Agents of America (IIAA) "Best Practices" Study Group. The agency was nominated by Reagan & Associates, Inc., an insurance agency and evaluation and consulting firm, based on its customer services, growth, stability and financial management. The study is an annual survey of insurance agencies that documents the business practices of the "best" agencies and urges other to adopt similar practices.
Nichols Brothers Boat Builders, Inc., has begun a $2.5 million update of Westward Sea Food's 185-foot Alaskan Command at Nichols' Whidbey Island yard. Work will include the replacement of engines, construction of a new hydraulic room and increasing the size of the fish holes. The project is expected to be completed in June.
Bell Harbor International Conference Center has made the following promotions in its operations and administration departments. Brian Gerke has been promoted to floor manager; Jennifer Klann, assistant director of food and beverage and LenElla Tabor, local area banquet sales manager.
U.S. Bank has named Yvonne Blumenthal assistant vice president and manager of its Washington Community Investment Department. Blumenthal will oversee statewide management of U.S. Bank's Community Reinvestment program.
King County Executive Ron Sims has named Nancy Campbell as his permanent director of the Department of Youth Services. Campbell has served as acting director since last May. The Department of Youth Services is responsible for operating the Alder Street youth detention facility. It is also known for operating and funding programs to direct youth away from crime.
Seattle-based PhotoDisc, Inc., a provider of digital stock photography, has promoted Natalie Angelillo to vice president of the newly re-named Content Development Department. The department was formerly known as the Acquisitions Department and underwent a name change to better reflect the current activities being performed.

Kim Maree Johannessen, P.S. has changed the firm name to Johannessen & Associates, P.S. Anne Heiner has joined the firm as an associate. The Seattle-based firm specializes in environmental, land use, and regulatory law.
The Seattle Chapter of Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) has selected Craig Venema of Unimark Construction as chairman of BOMA's code committee for 1997. Venema will oversee a growing committee, currently at 20 members, which represents the interests of BOMA members, keeps them aware of changes and issues in code activity and coordinates advocacy efforts on their behalf. The code committee has representatives from a number of trades and organizations, including the Department of Construction and Land Use (DCLU), as well as members who participate in other code development groups. This allows members to keep up to date on changes within the industry and to communicate the information to other members.
Base-Line Inc., a manufacturer of graphic arts supplies, has named John Holdings as president and chief operating officer. Base-Line has manufacturing and distribution facilities located in Auburn, Illinois and Connecticut.
At the 1997 Genesis Awards Seattle resident Sharon Howard will be honored for her Outstanding Television Documentary Series, titled "Earth Agenda". The series of three documentaries was presented by Seattle ABC affiliate KOMO-TV. It included "Lolita: Spirit in the Water", "Return of the Eagle" and "River of Bears". Past recipients of the award include Dr. Jane Goodall, Michael Jackson, and Dr. Richard Leakey.
Scott Craig has been named team leader of human resources for Door To Door Strorage, Inc. Craig will be responsible for recruiting, training and benefits for the growing company. Since the company began its operation in June 1996 it has doubled its storage space in the Puget Sound and has opened a center in Orange County, Calif.
Local broadcast personality Penny LeGate and former public relations consultant Robin Bender Ginn have created a partnership in a media and presentation training company called Ginn LeGate Media. They will lead workshops and consult executives on how to effectively handle media interviews and make the most of public presentations.
