Physio-Control elected officers, promoting several members to new positions. Richard O. Martin, formerly president and chief executive officer, becomes chairman and CEO. He replaces former Chairman Stephen Pagliuca, principal at Bain Capital, Inc., who will remain on the board. Taking over as president and continuing as chief operating officer is Robert M. Guezuraga.
Pope Resources, a Poulsbo-based owner and operator of tree farms and residential developments has named Thomas Gilkey as senior vice president - Timber and Acquisitions. Gilkey will be responsible for managing the company's 76,000-acre tree farm and will work on the company's acquisition strategy.

Absolute Business Services has announced the creation of a new intranet division, Telework Technologies Inc. (TTI). The new division will focus on the design, implementation and support of corporate intranets for field and service personnel. TTI's unique approach is that it will offer tailored solutions to the needs of field sales and service personnel in small and medium sized companies. TTI's solution combines the company's experience in service management and sales force automation with Internet and database technologies.
MetaInfo, Inc., a Seattle-based supplier of IP Management, Internet messaging and information management software for the Windows NT platform, has launched and aggressive sales and strategic business development program specifically targeting Fortune 500 companies migrating from UNIX to Microsoft Windows NT. Carolyn Brady has joined MetaInfo as sales executive and strategic business development. She will launch several programs designed to simplify the high-volume purchase of its products. Kay Ashton has joined the company as marketing communications manager. Her responsibilities will include developing, implementing and managing a worldwide product marketing program for MetaInfo through trade shows, advertising, direct marketing and public relations.
Safeco Mutual Funds has hired Sue Ellen Taylor as a national sales manager to oversee distribution of the funds through Safeco's national network of independent agents and financial planners. Taylor will focus of developing relationships with insurance agents and financial planners. Edward Bondy and Steven Manuel have been hired as regional wholesalers to support the sales through insurance agents and financial planners.

Financial Consulting Solutions Group, Inc. (FCS), a Redmond-based management consulting firm, has promoted Kevin Seat to senior financial consultant. FCS specializes in municipal financial management and holds a pivotal role in the development of a new regional water authority in King County, managing development of institutional, financial and legal structures for its implementation.
Ronald Allen has been promoted to director and shareholder at the Seattle law firm of Betts, Patterson & Mines. Allen's practice has focused on real estate, construction, and corporate and business transactions, with an emphasis on environmental issues.
The Bellevue accounting firm of Abramson, Hauser & Pendergast has hired Nancy Gile as a tax consultant, and has added Mary Wilkes to its estate tax department.
Seattle-based Merwin Productions has changed its name to Merwin Creative. The company produces corporate and public policy multimedia throughout the U.S., Asia and Europe. Merwin Creative has recently added: Cora Edmonds and Juli Morser as executive producers; Jerry Brown and Darek Mazzone as directors, and Andrew Baker as a digital designer.
David Ayriss has joined the Seattle-based advertising firm of Matthaeus Halverson as creative director and principal. As a result, the name of the agency has changed to Matthaeus Halverson Ayriss. The firm recently added Windstar Cruises to its client list.
Seattle-based National Mobile Television (NMT) has been acquired by Oaktree Capital Management LLC of Los Angeles. NMT is a provider of remote broadcast equipment for sports events nationwide.
The parent company of some of Washington state's most prominent wineries -- Columbia Winery, Paul Thomas Winery and Covey Run Vintners -- has announced a new name for its sales and marketing division -- Columbia Wine & Spirits.
Thomas O'Grady has been named assistant vice president of labor relations for Alaska Airlines. O'Grady will be responsible for the airline's labor contract negotiations, the administration of grievances and the supervision of arbitration proceedings. He also remains an associate general counsel of the company's legal department.
