The Elliott Bay Management Group has announced its alliance with Goldblum Lentz & Co. of Denver. The affiliation establishes a financial and management resource that will be available to small and mid-sized businesses in the Puget Sound region. The goal of the Elliott Bay Management Group is to improve the financial performance and the basic value of client companies. These client companies are then staged for growth through acquisitions and mergers with significantly greater leverage. Goldblum Lentz & Co. facilitates mergers, acquisitions, and recapitalizations and maximizes shareholder value for client companies.
Joe Abel and Ralph Allen have recently joined The Pacific Institute, an international educational organization headquartered in Seattle. Larry Hoffman, Leif Johnson, Taffie Lewis, Elsie Olesen and Rocky Tannehill have joined the organization as project directors. Patricia Hillis has joined as director of training and Terri Loomis has been appointed director of special events.
Washington Transit Advertising (WTA) has hired Dinah Donaldson as account executive in King County.
Steve Davis, vice president of the Corbis Corporation, has been elected as chair of the United Way of King County Board of Directors for 1997. Acceleration Software, developer of computer performance enhancing software, has announced a strategic alliance with Syncronys Softcorp of Culver City, Calif. Syncronys will publish and market Windrenalin hd, a utility developed by Acceleration that improves the performance of any computer running Windows 95. Syncronys Softcorp produces PC and Macintosh performance, memory enhancement, security, and CD-ROM acceleration software. Clint Ballard serves as Acceleration's CEO.
The EvansGroup has been named as the advertising agency for the Emerald Downs racetrack. The marketing company will develop advertising, assist in promotions, corporate partnerships, fan education, as well as media planning and buying. David Owens, senior vice president/account supervisor, and Teresa McGovern, account supervisor, will head account services. Laurie Greene, vice president/director of media planning, will head the media effort and Mike Mogelgaard, executive vice president/creative director, will oversee the creative team.

Redmond-based Parallel Communications, a marketing/communications agency, is expanding its service to include media research, planning, negotiating and buying services for both traditional and online media. Ed Pingul has been hired as media director as a result of the agency's expansion. Parallel has also hired Robert O'Dell as production manager; Peter Machtley, traffic manager; David Retchless, multimedia developer; Mark LaPoint, senior art director; Angeline Yeo and Trevor Daul, account coordinators and Sandra Kline, receptionist.

Kimberly Nakano has been named director of Learning Resources for Edmonds Community College. Nakano will supervise the college library and media services.
QVC, an electronic retailer, and the Washington Small Business Development Center (SBDC) are co-hosting "The '97 Quest for America's Best - QVC's 50 in 50 Tour" in Seattle and Spokane this month. Small manufacturers, weekend hobbyists, and local ventures will have the chance to become one of 20 Washington businesses to market their products during QVC sales broadcasts in June. The 50-state competition for 1,000 of America's best new products is set for Feb. 25 in Seattle and Feb. 27 in Spokane. Three out of the 20 businesses chosen will have the opportunity, based on total on-air sales and long-term sales potential on QVC, to be mainstreamed into regular QVC programming. The board of directors of the Economic Development Council of Snohomish County has elected Betty Woods, president and CEO of Blue Cross of Washington and Alaska as their new chairman. Frank Figg, corporate affairs director of the Boeing Company was elected vice chair.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma has been named a recipient of the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers' Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada. The award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Director of Finance Wayne Fanshier received the Award of Financial Reporting Achievement.
