State of Alaska

Caren Robinson, a Juneau businesswoman and former State of Alaska legislator, has been appointed to the Mental Health Trust Authority, The 7-member board administers the state's Mental Health Trust, a land and cash endowment that funds services for mentally ill Alaskans. John Malone, a Bethel insurance broker, has been reappointed to the board.

WSU-Vancouver

WSU-Vancouver will hold it's eighth annual commencement on May 11, the first at the university's new campus which opened last June. WSU regent and former King County Superior Court Judge, Carmen Otero, will present a commencement address. Otero will be named vice president of the WSU Board of Regents on May 9. Regent Joe King will be presented with a Regents' Medallion.

Small Business Task Force

The Mayor's Small Business Task Force has updated its Small Business Hotline to help entrepreneurs get information more quickly. The hotline provides recorded information and phone numbers for those seeking permits, technical information, business research centers, professional advice and reduced-rate loans. Metropolitan King County Council

The Metropolitan King County Council has given special honor to Auburn Youth Resources executive director, Dick Brugger. Brugger, who is retiring this year, came to Auburn Youth Resources in 1976. At the time, the agency was only three years old and struggling on a budget of $35,000. Brugger developed the Enumclaw Youth and Family Resource Center and the South King County Youth Shelter and Severson House, a transitional living facility and street outreach program in SeaTac, Federal Way and Tukwila. The agency now has an annual budget of $1.8 million and 65 employees.
