Anna Bope, credit manager at H.D. Fowler Co., Inc., has been elected chairman of the board of the National Association of Credit Management, Western Washington-Alaska. Other electees include: Bobbi Whisler, chairman elect, Unisource Northwest; Donald Conklin, president; Walter Jensen, vice president and secretary; Karen Parks, vice president; and Claude Harmon, treasurer.

The Seattle and Portland offices of Cole & Weber, an advertising and public relations agency, placed second in this year's Northwest Advertising Awards competition. Combined, the offices took home 15 awards -- three ADDYs and 12 Awards of Excellence.
Several Seattle community leaders will receive recognition at the first annual Allied Arts Honors gala at the Four Seasons Olympic Hotel on Friday, May 16. Those that will be honored include: Samuel Stroum, Stimson Bullitt, Julie Anderson, Walt Crowley, Norie Sato, as well as the Safeco Corporation. Lael Williams, the Visual and Performing Arts Program Manager for the Seattle School District, will unveil the School District's new Comprehensive Plan for Arts Education, which will be implemented this fall. The Women Business Owners organization is accepting nominations for the 1997 Nellie Cashman Women Entrepreneur of the Year. The award has recognized women business owners who have made an outstanding contribution to the status of women entrepreneurs through their achievements and innovation in business leadership and community involvement. Group Health Credit Union has appointed the following to its board of directors. Joan Mugford joins Sarah Klevit who was reelected to a second term. Allen Vautier will serve as the new chairman of the board. Jim Truess will assume the duties of vice chairman and Sherry Stoll will continue as secretary.

Peter Wenzel has joined the Seattle law firm of Graham & James LLP/Riddell Williams PS as an associate in its Intellectual Property Practice. Wenzel's practice focuses on intellectual property matters with an emphasis on technology driven transactions.
Daniel Kashporenko has been named group manager of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's Tacoma Office. Kashporenko will oversee the federal laboratory's private sector business in the Puget Sound region and along the I-5 Corridor. He also will serve as the office's contact for commercial organizations wanting to do business with the research and development laboratory and its operator, Battelle Memorial Institute of Columbus, Ohio. Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, located in Richland, is a multiprogram laboratory that conducts research projects in areas ranging from biotechnology and molecular sciences to health technologies and environmental remediation.
Lee Weng and Arun Tirumalai, both of Siemens Medical Systems Ultrasound Group in Issaquah, have received the Siemens' Inventor of the Year award. The award honors significant technical contributions to the company. Weng and Tirumalai are being honored for their development of the recently introduced SieScape ultrasound imaging technique that automatically combines a series of individual ultrasound images to create a panoramic image in real time, which a physician can view on a conventional monitor. Weng is a staff scientist and group leader in the advanced development department, Tirumalai is a staff scientist in the software engineering group. Siemens Medical Systems Ultrasound Group is part of New Jersey-based Siemens Medical Systems, Inc., a leading provider of diagnostic imaging and advances medical electronics systems and products.
The Canlis Restaurant has been honored with a first place win for "Best Design" in the National Restaurant Association's 34th annual Great Menu Contest. The menu was designed by Foundation, an image and graphics company. The Canlis is owned by Chris and Alice Canlis.
Richmond Public Relations has announced that it will represent Hotel Monaco, a new hotel opening in Seattle. Located on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Spring Street, Hotel Monaco will feature a 175-seat restaurant, a fitness center, evening wine receptions, over 6,000 square feet of conference facilities and indoor valet parking. The hotel, which is due to open this summer, will be managed by Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group Inc.
Dain Bosworth has opened a brokerage office on Bainbridge Island located at 600 N.E. Ericksen Ave. Patrick Elliot vice president, associate manager and investment officer at Dain Bosworth in Seattle, will head the Bainbridge Island office. Eric Olanic will serve as vice president and investment officer; Charlie Odell, associate vice president and investment officer; and Stephanie Morton, sales assistant.
