A Contemporary Theatre

Catherine McConnell, general manager of TCI Media Services, has been elected to the board of trustees of A Contemporary Theatre in Seattle. Her initial three-year term begins this month. She has volunteered with ACT for the past year, working on the gala fundraiser "A Taste of ACT.' The theater company operates out of new facilities at Kreielsheimer Place in downtown Seattle.

Virginia Mason

Margaret Adams, MD, recently joined the Center for Women's Health and General Internal Medicine at Virginia Mason Medical Center. Dr. Adam received her medical degree from the University of Connecticut in 1990. She completed an Internal Medicine residency at Temple University and a General Internal Medicine fellowship at George Washington University and was a faculty member at GWU from 1995 until relocating to Seattle.

U.S. Courts for the Ninth Circuit

Circuit Judge Edward Leavy of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has opted for senior status. He will maintain his chambers in Portland and serve the court, but by stepping down from active duty Judge Leavy creates a vacancy on the court. The vacancy will be filled by Presidential appointment with the advice and consent of the United States Senate.

American Red Cross

Charles Drummond has been named executive vice president of Cascade Regional Services in Tacoma and chief operating officer for Washington for the American Red Cross Pacific Northwest Regional Blood Services.

Reed McClure

John Erlick and Janice Sue Wang have joined the insurance practice at the Seattle law firm of Reed McClure. Erlick focuses on professional errors and omissions, and Wang has experience in insurance coverage and defense, commercial litigation and professional malpractice litigation.

YMCA

The YMCA of Greater Seattle has elected nine members to new terms on its Board of Directors: Miller Adams, Infratek; Jann Blackbourn, Washington Transit Advertising; Douglas Boyden, William M. Mercer, Inc.; Martha Choe, Seattle City Council; Dot Fuller, D.V. Fuller and Associates; Matt Griffin, Pine Street Development; Candy Marshall, WRQ, Inc.; Donald Nielsen, Seattle School Board; and Robert Richards, Commerce Bank of Washington. Named as YMCA Board Officers for 1997-99 are: Matt Griffin, chair; Stanley Savage, Seafirst Bank, vice chair; Richard Jones, King County Superior Court, vice chair; Candy Marshall, vice chair; John Vynne, Thunderbird Pacific Corp., treasurer; Maureen Lee, Lakeside Industries, assistant treasurer; and Paula Boggs, Preston Gates and Ellis, secretary.

First Heritage Bank

Carol Greenhalgh, Kathy Mingo and Mike Eells have recently been promoted at First Heritage Bank, a locally owned and operated community bank with branches in Snohomish, Monroe, Marysville and Arlington. Greenhalgh has been named bank officer and will also serve as special credits manager. Mingo was also named bank officer. Eells was appointed to internal auditor.

ALA-Puget Sound Chapter

The Association of Legal Administrators Puget Sound Chapter has appointed the following members as the 1997/98 officers; Linda O'Brien, Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe, president; Mary White, Keller Rohrback, president-elect; Julie Brandsness, Buck & Gordon, immediate past president; Donna Baker, Stoel Rives, secretary; Karen Willis, Office of the Attorney General, treasurer; Peter Roberts, Garvey Schubert & Barer, bar liaison; Lisa Dalenius, Law Offices of Deborah J. Safeco

The following promotions have been announced by the Safeco board of directors. William Miele has been promoted to vice president of Safeco Insurance Company of America; Jeff Ogard, assistant vice president. Pat McCormick will serve as vice president in charge of the Individual Department for Safeco Life Insurance Company. The Safeco Asset Management Company has promoted William Whitlow to vice president and portfolio manager for the Safeco Northwest Fund and the RST Northwest Portfolio; Robert Kern, co-manager of the Safeco High-Yield Bond Fund, and Michael Ann McAboy, have been appointed assistant vice presidents.

Gores & Blais

The Seattle law firm of Gores & Blais, a firm specializing in estate planning and administration, has appointed Sandra Blair Hernshaw as Of Counsel.

Seattle Times

Nancy Bruner has joined the Seattle Times Company as director of new media, a newly created position. Bruner will identify, develop and manage new media information services and businesses for the company.

Chicken Soup Brigade

The Chicken Soup Brigade is opening a thrift store in Pike Place Market, located on the second level of the Down Under concourse at 1505 Pike Place #325. Proceeds from the store will provide funding for Chicken Soup Brigade's practical support services for people living with AIDS in King County.

LMBA Scholarship Dinner

The Loren Miller Bar Association (LMBA) Scholarship Dinner will be held May 16 at Cavanaugh's Inn of Fifth Avenue. This year LMBA will pay tribute to one of it's highest achieving members and mentors, Constance Proctor of Alston, Courtnage, MacAulay and Proctor. The proceeds of this event are used to support scholarships awarded to African American Students of local law schools. NW minority supplier awards

At its annual awards luncheon, the Northwest Minority Supplier Development Council honored the following corporations: Boeing received the 1997 National Corporation of the Year award, and U.S. Bancorp, the Regional Corporation of the Year Award. The Minority Business Input Committee also acknowledged Fluke Electronics Corporation and Bank of America-NW for outstanding efforts and improvement in the area of minority business development. Minority business recipients were: AAA Janitorial Services, 1997 Supplier of the Year under $1 million in gross sales; Vinson Brother Corporation, 1997 Supplier of the Year -- $1 million to $10 million; Lugo Construction, Inc., 1997 Supplier of the Year over $10 million in gross sales.
