White Shield, Inc., a surveying and engineering firm with offices located in Bellevue and Grandview, Washington, has recently hired Kerrel Bell. Bell, a professional surveyor, will be managing the firm's Grandview Survey Department.
The Victoria Clipper has added Marcy La Mont to manage the sales and marketing department. La Mont will be responsible for domestic and international wholesaler and tour operator sales. La Mont formerly served as tour director and sales representative for Tauck Tours. Monique Maurice-Snider has been appointed product manager. Maurice-Snider will be responsible for creating new tour packages and sightseeing tour options for Victoria Clipper. Maurice-Snider formerly worked in sales and marketing as the group tour coordinator. Victoria Clipper, based in Seattle and Victoria, operates Victoria Clipper and the Princess Margeurite III ferry.
Cole & Weber has added Deana Singleton, account supervisor, Megan Gray, assistant account executive, and Katy Ransom, account coordinator to join the Boeing recruitment advertising team. Singleton will oversee and manage all account activities for Boeing recruitment advertising. Singleton formerly worked as an account director for JWT Specialized Communications. Cole & Weber is a Seattle and Portland advertising, direct marketing, interactive and public relations firm.
Door To Door Storage Inc., based in Kent, has opened its fourth West Coast location with the introduction of a new mobile storage center in San Diego. San Diego, Orange County, and San Jose are the prime out-of-state operation areas for the company.
Shurgard Storage Centers and Ryder will begin renting co-branded trucks at Shurgard Storage Centers across the country. Both companies' logos will appear on the trucks that will be rented exclusively from Shurgard Storage in more than 40 communities. Ryder owns and maintains the trucks. Shurgard Storage, headquartered in Seattle, specializes in all aspects of the self storage industry.
Pacific Studio of Seattle has named Norm Scrivner art director. Scrivner will spearhead the design of all in-house projects and coordinate services for outside clients. Dianna Friedman has been hired as sales and marketing manager. Friedman will help expand the company's client base, as well as develop and implement marketing strategies. Pacific Studio makes creative exhibits and fixtures.
The Pioneer Square Community Development Organization planned a community planting of median strips from Yesler Way to King Street on First Avenue. The planting took place March 28 with neighborhood and business volunteers helping to beautify the Pioneer Square neighborhood. More than 1,000 plants were planted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Redmond-based Physio-Control Corp. has named Robert A. Niskanen vice president, senior scientific fellow. Niskanen will be responsible for maintaining scientific and corporate relationships with leaders in the research, emergency medical and cardiology communities. Niskanen was formerly director of research. Physio-Control manufactures, sells and services defibrillator/monitor/pacemakers and other medical instruments.
Roger Chamberlin and Cameron McCully have been named mortgage bankers at Mortgage Market's Federal Way branch office. Chamberlin and McCully will be responsible for originating and closing home loans in the Puget Sound area.
Mark Tabbotthas been appointed vice president and Alaska general manager for Totem Ocean Trailer Express. Tabbott will be responsible for operations, sales and marketing, traffic and administration in Alaska. Tabbott was formerly an associate for the Seattle law firm Bauer Moynihan & Johnson.
Laura Kohn was recently appointed director of the city of Seattle's Office for Education. The Office administers the $69-million-dollar Families and Education Levy to fund a range of programs and services. Kohn formerly served as the K-12 Liaison Director at the University of Washington.
James Jerrels has been named senior account executive for Ad Mark Services. Jerrels formerly served as vice president and general manager of radio stations in Jacksonville, Fla. Ad Mark Services is an advertising and marketing services agency located in Seattle.
The Municipal League of King County will host its annual Civic Awards Luncheon May 1 in the Grand Ballroom of the Westin Hotel. The following individuals and businesses will be honored as 1998 Civic Award recipients: Carol James, chair, Land Conservancy of Seattle-King County; Jean Floten, president of Bellevue Community College; Dennis McLerran, director of Puget Sound Air Pollution Control Agency; Leadership Tomorrow; TVW; Reverend Samuel McKinney, pastor emeritus, Mount Zion Baptist Church; Terry Husseman (posthumously), deputy director, Washington State Department of Ecology; and Cynthia Rekdal, director of World Language, Culture, and International Education, Seattle School District.
