Marten & Brown

Marten & Brown appointed J. Daniel Ballbach as its CEO. Ballbach has practiced law for 24 years, most of which was spent concentrating on environmental issues with Perkins Coie. He also served as COO for Landau Associates, a Seattle-based environmental consulting firm.

Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo's Institutional Trust Group has promoted Colleen Riley Nakamura to team leader and vice president. Based in Seattle, Nakamura will oversee the staff of the Employee Benefit Trust who coordinate profit sharing, 401(k) retirement and defined benefit pension plans for Wells Fargo's business customers.

Country Companies

Brent Herrly, formerly of Seattle, has been named associate manager of the Country Companies West Portland insurance agency. Herrly joined Country Companies in 1994 as an agent in Bothell and became an agency development specialist in 1997.

encoding.com, a Seattle-based creator of digital media solutions for the Internet, has acquired multimedia applications developer Alive.com, the companies jointly announced. Alive.com's e-Show Engine, the Web's first digital media engine that makes it possible to create, host, and manage media on any Web site, will be added to encoding.com's existing stable of applications including mediaUpgrade.com and mySlideshow.com.

Edmonds Community College

Edmonds Community College will expand its high-tech training in new high demand computer job fields, thanks to a $700,000 state grant just awarded by the state's Higher Education Coordinating Board. With the grant dollars, the college will develop new programs in Web application, e-commerce, and computer games and 3-D animation. The grant also provides for expansion of the current programs in network technology and Unix/C++ programming.

Pointshare

Pointshare Corp., a Bellevue-based online service provider for the healthcare community, has announced the appointment of Kirk A. Collamer as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Collamer comes to Pointshare with 23 years of financial experience. He will continue to assist in the search to find his replacement as CFO at Coinstar, a Bellevue-based company that owns and operates a network of automated, self-service coin counting and processing machines.

Janeros Corp., a Mercer Island-based healthcare technology e-commerce company and publisher of SurgiSource.com, announced that James R. McDonald has joined their management staff as chief financial officer. McDonald has 20 years experience in structuring small business financing, as founder and CEO of a real estate development firm company.

Onvia.com

Onvia.com, a business-to-business online operations center headquartered in Seattle, announced a partnership with the Service Corps of Retired Executives to provide practical and useful information to small business owners and SCORE volunteer business counselors. Under terms of the agreement, Onvia.com and SCORE will offer two, 16-page brochures to business owners nationwide who seek SCORE counseling assistance.
