Rep. Barbara Lisk, R-Zillah, has been chosen by the Association of Washington Business to receive its 2000 Matson Award, honoring the legislator who has consistently supported issues of importance to the business community. The award will be presented Sept. 28 at AWB's 2000 Policy Summit at the Inn at Semi-ah-moo near Blaine. Lisk, who is in her fifth term in Washington's House of Representatives, has been an ardent supporter of business and agriculture in Washington. During the 2000 Legislative session, she sponsored bills which would make it easier for the state to contract out for services and require voter approval of state tax increases.
Ryan, Swanson & Cleveland announced that Gale Jarosz was recently named director of human resources at the Seattle law firm. Jarosz has been employed with the firm for over 10 years, serving in a variety of positions, most recently as client accounts manager.
Asix, a Bellevue-based software vendor and information technology consulting firm, announced the promotion of Jack David to Versata practice manager. David is a senior consultant with more than 20 years of experience in design, development and implementation of business solutions. Versata is a provider of software and services that enables businesses to rapidly deploy and modify complex e-business applications.
Taro Kusunose joined the Seattle-based law firm of Betts, Patterson & Mines as an associate attorney in the business transactions, corporate law and commercial litigation practice areas. Fluent in Japanese, one focus of Kusunose's practice is serving the needs of Japanese businesses in the Pacific Northwest.
The Washington State Bar Association announced that Tacoma attorney Dale Carlisle has been elected by its board of governors to serve as the 111th president of the association. Carlisle, who currently serves on the board from the sixth congressional district, will serve as president-elect during the 2000-2001 fiscal year and assume presidency of the association in fall 2001.

Mayor Paul Schell announced the addition of Michael Shannon as special assistant to the Mayor for human services. Shannon served as legislative assistant to U.S. Congressman Jim McDermott from 1994 to 1999. During his tenure with McDermott he handled issues such as trade with Africa, human rights, labor, defense and foreign policy.
Three attorneys for the Seattle office of the law firm Davis Wright Tremaine have been recognized their contributions to pro bono service. Payton Smith has been awarded the David W. Soukup Award for outstanding legal advocacy for children. Dennis McLean was selected as one of four outstanding Seattle Habitat for Humanity volunteers and Michele Earl-Hubbard has been awarded the King County Bar Association's 2000 Pro Bono Award.
Applied Discovery, a Bellevue-based developer of Internet-based solutions for legal professionals, recently added two litigation attorneys to fill key positions. Virginia Llewellyn joins the company as manager for the newly formed client solutions group. David Wilner will manage the business development and sales group. Led by Llewellyn, the client solutions group will provide legal professionals with no-cost services, including product education, training and ongoing technical support. As manager of the business development and sales group, Wilner will provide strategic focus to the company and lead the company's sales effort and nationwide expansion.
Conversa, a Redmond-based company dedicated to enabling speech technologies that facilitate Internet access through both mobile and traditional access devices, announced it has named Matt Scheuing as its executive vice president of marketing and sales. Scheuing has been a marketing executive at U S WEST Communications since March 1994 -- since January 1999 as vice president of marketing for the company's $2 billion Small Business Group.
Multimedia K.I.D., a Vancouver-based developer of innovative computer-based learning systems, announced that Shaike Orbach has been appointed president and CEO, effective Sept. 14. Multimedia K.I.D.'s co-founder, Pessie Goldenberg, has relinquished the positions of interim president and CEO to become executive vice chairman. Orbach is currently president and CEO of Opgal, Ltd., an Israeli firm involved in electro-optics
Stone Construction Equipment has promoted two and added two new members to its staff. Ray Kaszniak, former district manager for Illinois, Kansas and Missouri, has been promoted to regional manager of the mid-western regions direct and indirect sales managers.
Ted Pappas has been appointed as a district sales manager. Pappas’ new responsibilities include serving the needs ofequipment dealers adn rental houses in North and South Carolina, as well as Virginia.
Terry Sullivan was appointed as a district sales manager. Sullivan will serve dealers and rental houses in Delaware, New Jersey and New York City along with Long Island, N.Y.
Richard Nisbit was appointed as vice president of manufacturing. Nisbet has been with the company since 1971. In 1980 he was promoted to assistant plant manager. In 1983 he became plant manager and he assumed overall responsibility for manufacturing. In 1996 he was promoted to operations manager.he directed projects to change Stone’s manufacturing process from a batch operation to just-in-time manufacturing to a total focussed factory.

Stellar Industries has appointed Tom Cunningham as a customer representative. Cunningham has been employed at Stellar since 1997 in the body assembly, body weld and used truck departments. His new responsibilities as a customer service representative include answering service, maintenance and warranty calls and selling Stellar parts
