Dr. Garry Baldwin, a Kent doctor of chiropractic, was recently named Volunteer of the Year by the Washington State Chiropractic Association. Most recently, Baldwin served on a special task force to advance and protect chiropractic in Washington. He also serves as the vice chair of the Chiropractic Quality Assurance Committee. He has been in practice for more than 16 years.
Dick and Sharon Friel will receive the 2001 W. J. Pennington Award by Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle for their support, service and personal commitment to the hospital. The Friels have conducted auctions to benefit the hospital that have raised more than $15 million. Among the fundraising events they have sponsored are the Auction of Washington Wines and Light Up A Child's Life which features the Festival of Trees.

Labor Ready, a Tacoma-based provider of temporary manual labor, announced that Ron Junck, executive vice president and general counsel, will be leaving the company effective June 29, to return to the practice of law in Phoenix. Junck has provided legal counsel to the company since its inception. Tim Adams has been appointed to succeed Junck. Adams has been director of legal services for the company since 1999.
Purple Solutions, a Seattle-based provider of customer relationship solutions for managing sales force automation functions, announced the appointment of Keith Lashley as vice president of sales and marketing.
MultiCare Health System announced several additions and promotions to the its leadership team. Vince Schmitz is chief financial officer for the company. Erik Rasmussen has been promoted to vice president, general counsel from general counsel. Sally Watkins has been promoted to vice president, chief nurse executive and administrator, Tacoma General Hospital. Carroll Wilt has been promoted to vice president, chief information officer. MultiCare Health System includes Tacoma General Hospital, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Center, Allenmore Hospital, MultiCare Clinics, MultiCare Urgent Care Centers, MultiCare Medical Group, Day Surgery of Tacoma, MultiCare HealthWorks, MultiCare Home Services and Laboratories Northwest.
Fran Bigelow, founder and president of Seattle-based Fran's Chocolates, has entered an agreement with Martha Stewart.com to create gold and platinum foil-wrapped chocolate heart and shell wedding favors. With this new deal, couples across the country can purchase wedding favors online.

City University, a Bellevue-based private university, recently signed an agreement with Walden University of Minneapolis to allow City University students to apply their master's degree credits toward doctorate degrees in business, education and counseling psychology. Both City University and Walden University provide opportunities for working professionals who wish to maintain their career and personal commitments while seeking an advanced degree.
Gov. Gary Locke appointed Patrick Oshie, a Yakima attorney, to become the state Utilities and Transportation Commission's third commissioner. Oshie is a partner in the firm of Oshie & Spurgin. The three-member commission regulates the rates, service and practices of privately owned utilities and transportation companies.
Gov. Gary Locke appointed state Appellate Court Commissioner Paris Kallas to the King County Superior Court bench. Kallas has served as a commissioner in Division One of the state Court of Appeals since 1996. She has also operated her own practice, worked in two law firms and served as senior staff attorney for the Washington Appellate Defender Association.
University Village is the site of a new Bryn Walker store operated by the San Francisco-based women's apparel company. Bryn Walker collections are sold in 11 company-owned stores and wholesale to 850 boutiques nationwide.
Karr Tuttle Campbell, a law firm with offices in Seattle and Portland, announced that Michaelanne Ehrenberg and Lauralyn Kliewer have joined the firm's Seattle office as associates. Katelyn Morgaine has joined the firm as a staff attorney and Boaz Weintraub has been promoted to staff attorney. Ehrenberg, Kliewer and Morgaine join the firm's litigation department. Weintraub joined the firm in 1998 and works primarily in the areas of probate and estate settlement.
The City of Seattle is currently in the process of constructing a new Civic Center and consolidating a variety of city departments into the Key Tower building. As part of the plan, the City's Office of Economic Development is moving June 2 to a temporary location on Key Tower's 17th floor, and will remain at that location for approximately a year and one half.
