Hannah McFarland of Seattle has been awarded certification by the National Association of Document Examiners as a certified document examiner. McFarland is a forensic document examiner and recently taught a course through the Pan American Institute of Forensic Science and Technology at the University of Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico.
Jeffery Dauenhauer has joined Focus Capital as a principal. He will be responsible for managing operational activities and client communications. Dauenhauer graduated from the University of Washington and is pursuing a masters degree in finance at Seattle University.
The Charlestown Street Café in West Seattle has won, for the third year in a row, the Great Chowder Cook-off held in Newport, R.I. As a result, the cafe is now in the Great Chowder Cook-off Hall of Fame. The Charlestown is the only restaurant outside of New England to win this event in its 21-year history. Owner Larry Mellum is a member of the Mayor's Small Business Task Force.
Western Electronics. based in Meridian, Idaho, added Melvina Alexander and James Lowrey to its national sales force. Alexander will be based in Oregon and Lowrey will be based in Washington. Western Electronics specializing in sheetmetal, machining, plating and custom painting, with locations in Seattle, Portland and Meridian, Idaho.
Getty Images appointed Michael A. Stein to its board of directors. Stein is currently vice president and chief financial officer of Icos Corp. His previous experience includes vice president and CFO of Nordstrom and Marriott International. Getty Images, based in Bellevue, markets a collection of contemporary and historical photography and film footage.
Corus Pharma, a Seattle-based biotech and specialty pharmaceutical development company, named William Baker, Ph.D., as vice president of research. Baker was COO and vice president of research for Optimer Pharmaceuticals in San Diego.

Scott R. Sleight has joined Short Cressman & Burgess as of counsel. Sleight is formerly an associate with Barokas Martin Ahlers & Tomlinson. He will join the firm's construction and real estate litigation practice groups.
Marriott International is opening the Fairfield Inn by Marriott in SeaTac. The 147-room inn will operate as a Marriott franchise and will be managed by Hospitality First of Seattle.
Bill Ward has been named to the board of directors at Independence Energy, a provider of natural gas under new federal oversight rules that is located in Bel Air, Md. Ward is the president of Management Engineering Associates of Camas.
Bird on a Wire will hold a grand opening on June 29 at its 9007 35th Ave. S.W. location in West Seattle. The coffeehouse will feature local artists in addition to espresso and pastries. Owner Heidi Herr was assisted by the Community Capital Development's loan program and the Seattle Women's Business Center.
Peter W. Rumm is the new manager of product development at Cruise West. Rumm was previously with Glacier Bay Cruiseline. He will be responsible for development of onboard activities and shore excursions. Cruise West also named Bill Beal as manager of group and inside sales. Beal was formerly with American Classic Voyages of Chicago.
Stan Kott is the new vice president and general manager of the Sorrento Hotel. Kott replaces Jim Treadway, who stepped down to focus on his role as president and CEO of MTM Management which operates the Sorrento and five other luxury properties in the Northwest. Kott most recently served as general manager of the Edgewater Hotel and has been associated in the past with Timberline Lodge, Salish Lodge, Salishan Resort in Oregon and Topnotch Resort in Stowe, Vt.
The Fearey Group named Deborah Alwine account coordinator and hired DeAnn Snider as a summer intern. Alwine will assist with public relations for Boeing Realty Corp. Alwine worked as an intern for the Pittsburgh-based public relations firm Skutski & Oltmanns. Snider is a senior at Pennsylvania State University
