Port of Tacoma

The Port of Tacoma named Alvaro Torres-Amigo, former manager of finance and business analyst for Sea-Tac International Airport, director of financial planning. The Port's Department of Finance and Administration hired four new employees due to restructuring. They include Sedonia Young, manager of administration; Don Kelley, accounts payable manager; Lien Dam, accounting manager; and Delene Jennings, payroll manager.

Westfield State College

Westfield State College in Springfield, Mass., named Vicky Carwein, chancellor of the University of Washington Tacoma, president of the college. Carwein, who replaces Frederick Woodward, is the school's first female president. Westfield is a liberal arts college.

Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission

Terry Thomas is leaving her position as executive director of the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission, a seven-member citizen body that interprets, administers and enforces the Seattle Elections Code, Code of Ethics, Election Pamphlet Code and Whistleblower Protection Code. Thomas will join MCI Corp. in Ashburn, Va., as vice president for ethics operations.

Washington Family Business Awards

Six firms were named Best in the Northwest by the Family Enterprise Institute of Pacific Lutheran University's School of Business. Winners are Deeny Construction Co. of Seattle and The Revere Group, a Seattle packaging company, small business; Canlis Restaurant of Seattle, medium business; R.D. Merrill Co. & Merrill Gardens, a Seattle-based owner and operator of senior housing, large business; Cozza Optical of Spokane, new business; and The McGregor Co., a Colfax-based manufacturer of agricultural equipment, heritage business. Preston Premium Wines of Pasco and Alaska Distributors Co. of Seattle were also recognized.

Big Enough Clothes

Big Enough Clothes, a designer of children's clothing, hired Laura Fuller as a sales representative in the Auburn area. Big Enough is based in Norwalk, Conn.

Microsoft

Microsoft named Charles H. Noski and Helmut Panke directors, increasing the size of its board from eight to 10 members. Microsoft also outlined new committee assignments that limit each director to serving on one or two committees.

Esquire Deposition Services

Esquire Deposition Services, a court reporting and legal services provider based in Florham Park, N.J., has opened a Seattle branch. Reggie Zavon joined the Seattle office as office manager and Shauna Beach, former owner of Byers Anderson Beach of Tacoma, was named general manager.

Council on African American Elders

Mayor Greg Nickels is seeking candidates to fill seven positions on the Council on African American Elders, a 12-member board that advises city officials on policies, programs and services of benefit to older African Americans. The mayor is seeking candidates who are active in African American community affairs, have skills and experience in health care, fund development and public relations, and who have contacts in African American churches. Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce

The Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its Annual Achievement Awards, which recognize individuals and groups who make Capitol Hill a better place to live and work. Nominations may be sent to chamber<30 p.m., Dec. 8 at the Bacon Mansion B&B at 959 Broadway Ave. E.

Form Communications

The city of Bellevue selected Form Communications, a Seattle-based marketing firm, to develop a recycling communication program for the city's new single-family, multifamily and commercial solid waste collection services. Form will work with the city to establish branding guidelines for new recycling initiatives.

Marsh

Marsh, a New York City-based risk and insurance services firm, named Douglas Winslow-Nason managing director of the Seattle office. Winslow-Nason is the risk consulting practice leader for Marsh's Pacific Northwest operations and has been associated with the Seattle office since 1991.
